All cat lovers know what good alarms cats can be.

Possum, my all time favorite cat used to jump up on the counter and run the can opener when she thought it was past time for breakfast. The first time she did it I was lying beside Kevin, my first husband, who was still dozing a bit. I woke him and asked who he had let stay the night after he and some of his compadres had finished playing chess and doing whatever else they had done.

He looked at me weirdly, said "nobody," and wanted to know why I'd asked.

And then the can opener started up again.

We did double takes towards the sound and back at each other before getting out of bed and creeping stealthily into the kitchen with wide eyes and hair standing up. There, of course, was our little Possum sitting on the counter and mashing the top of the can opener repeatedly with one little paw.

I guess kneading us through the covers hadn't worked for her either. Thank God she'd never met this guy's cat.

That cat reminds me of our cat, Misty, only luckily we don't have a baseball bat. :)

Your cat Possum running the can opener is hilarious....Thanks for the laughs, Allie! Lol

I had a cat that would sit on my chest to get me up in the morning. I would try to lock her out of the bed room at night to keep her out of the room but she would slip by me and hide under the bed, bright and early the next morning she would be sitting on my chest. Makes you wonder who is the boss you or them?

One of my cats (Cutie) brings me cat toys if I don't get out of bed early enough for her. She will walk into the bedroom carrying a toy and meowing. It's like she's offering to buy breakfast with a toy. Since she does the same thing when she wants me to get back up after I go to bed, sometimes I find a pile of toys on the floor in the morning, usually in a trail leading to the stairs, as if she imagines me following it. When that doesn't work, she bites me in the finger and then stares into my eyes.

I'm pretty sure there have been times when I looked not unlike that cat while trying to figure out a printer.

My cat knew right where my bladder is and would jump on the bed, land on my morning bladder, then leap off the bed and dash to the bedroom door and look back over her shoulder to see if I was getting up to feed her. If I was still laying there, I got the treatment as many times as required to pry me out of bed.

    Dogs have owners.
    Cats have servants.
