It has been alleged that Bishop Malone had sex with a 15-year-old girl.

My wife, a Roman Catholic, feels that if the allegation can be confirmed, then Bishop Malone should be excommunicated.

    I agree.

I agree with the addendum that he serve time in prison.

I, too, believe that he should be held accountable for his actions, but I still have "innocent until proven guilty", the heart of the American and British legal system, should also apply in his case as in all others.

They should be treated no differently than any other sex offender.

It's bad enough to hear of Catholic Priests being charged as sex offenders, but someone as high in the Church as a Cardinal is really shocking!

My wife is Catholic and she feels that he should be excommunicated.

He may well be, @Hal Pollner. Lindsey Graham stated in a recent interview that the Southern Baptist Convention is now having the same problem show up. Ministers/Pastors/Preachers have been abusing children for years, but, unlike the Catholic Church, there is no central authority to blame. These guys just moved from one community to another, and sometimes one state to another and were never prosecuted. Things are just now coming to light due to the Catholic issues. Congress is considering opening another investigation into the matter.

We have been having trouble with public school teachers with the same issues. One guy just now under indictment has been abusing kids for at least a decade, and has simply moved from school district to school district. In some cases the administrators and principals knew of the issue, and just encouraged him to move on to avoid the scandal, just as the bishops did. NAMBLA has always pointed their members toward schools and scout troops, as going into the Ministry generally takes too much time and too many years out of life.
