Thanks to my daughter who has been into Genealogy for years I am now a member of The Mayflower Society. In 1620, a brave group of 102 men, women and children sailed across the Atlantic on theMayflower, searching for a life of religious and civil freedom. To honor Pilgrim ancestors and to keep their story alive, the General Society of Mayflower Descendants was created in 1897. It is the goal of the Mayflower Society to join together people who share the Pilgrims’ lineage and to carry on the memory of our Pilgrim ancestors. Any person able to document their descent from one or more of theMayflowerPilgrims is eligible to apply for membership to the Mayflower Society. Why become a member?
She died recently, but we had a friend who was a member of the Mayflower Society, and we visited the Mayflower House in Plymouth with her on Thanksgiving a few years ago. Actually, I guess it was quite a few years ago. If you ever get a chance to go to Plymouth, as a member you (and your guests) will be able to have access to stuff that the general public doesn't have access to. I don't know what other benefits there are, but I am sure there are others.
My mom was born in Germany and my dad's family came from the Georgia swamps. I doubt seriously any of his Scottish ancestors came in on any of the historical or notable boat passages. I'm happy for you though @Lon Tanner if this news made you smile.
It didn't make me smile or frown Bess. I'm a History Buff and just found the whole Mayflower history interesting.
I'm pretty sure I'm not eligible for The Mayflower Society but I am eligible for The Daughters of the Confederacy.
Years ago I dated a young lady who might have been a May, flower child but to be truthful I’m not sure if it was really May or June when we dated.
So you sucker me into confessing I am forgetful at Denny's and then you tell us you have never been to Denny's. Nicely played ... ha ha ha!
There are LOTS of senior discount restaurants, including fast food. I posted a link to them in an older thread about Senior Discounts started by @Yvonne Smith
Do you seriously believe I could remember to ask at any of them? All I can remember is I get a free piece of pie at a local place on my birthday! I have it on my calendar. We have lots of places that have senior discount days, but they are so crowded with seniors it is a mad house. We must steer this back to the Mayflower. I had no relatives on the Mayflower I forget the name of the ship that took one 1600's grandfather from France to Canada. Others were indigenous or came in the 1800's from Scotland and Germany.
