Do you sometimes do things that cause you to feel like you're losing it?

For example, a moment ago, I ground some coffee, which was fine, but then I poured the coffee grounds into a cup rather than into the percolator basket, where it is supposed to be. Fortunately, I didn't try to drink the coffee grounds.

Other examples from coffee include starting a K-cup coffeemaker but forgetting the cup or, one time, placing the cup upside down. More often, but not so startling, is forgetting that I had made coffee.

Not everything revolves around coffee, however. I don't want to count the time I spend looking for things like my wallet or keys.

Not quite the same, perhaps, but while I used to be on top of technology, I am becoming more and more intimidated by technology. I had a computer in the early 1980s and was programming within a year. I set up a BBS (computer bulletin board system) on three different operating systems and was able to get a four-node BBS working when more experienced Sysops said it couldn't be done. I have built a computer (although it was obsolete by the time I got it working), and regularly replaced parts or upgraded my computers myself. Now I can't get a DVD player to work with my television or an external CD/DVD to work on my computer; I had to buy a portable DVD player.

To be fair to myself, I was only in my 20s when I spent ten minutes frantically looking for my glasses while I was wearing them.

Ken, much, much more of "the old" rather than being "stupid".

I remember in December, was having Buffet Breakfast at the MGM Hotel/Casino. I got a cup for coffee, filled it up with what I thought was nice/hot coffee. Got back to the table, put my usual milk/cream into it and a packet of Splenda and stirred. When I picked up the cup to drink, the cup was freezing cold! IOW, I didn't read the sign above where I filled and filled the cup with Ice Coffee! Wife and I laughed so hard.

I think it's possible to be both. :D:D:D

I have more "Senior Moments" these days, mostly misplaced stuff. Annoying in a 2-story house. old.gif

When I make soup, I get out the saucepan and the bowl so I can put the spoon I stir the soup with into the bowl. For some reason, I now have to catch myself before I dump the can of soup into the bowl rather than in the saucepan. I have no idea why I started doing that.

I don't think this is an age/IQ issue, I think it's an "I no longer spend my days at the workplace so things are more of a blur" thing. Maybe they'll hire me to put bolts on airplane doors.

Hmmmm.... I don't know so much about that. ^^^^^^^^ :p

Actually, I think it's because Ken is distracted. He must have a lot on his mind just looking after SoC. Plus, a lot of other things.
I once put the coffeemaker on then went back in a few minutes to pour myself a nice cup of hot coffee. The carafe was on the heating pad... full of clear water. I had forgotten to pour it into the tank. And I wasn't even old. :)

Not stupid. Just old............er. Our memory ages along with the rest of us.
I forget things much more often now. I've learned to turn off the stove when I leave the kitchen for any reason.
And I've also learned to stop saying, "It's OK; I'll remember."
    Cuz I won't.

Send me to the store for three items, and I'll forget at least one of them. But that's okay because I'll buy plenty of other stuff that's not on the list.

When we do the same things regularly, our minds become programmed, so our actions should become automatic. If you start thinking about what you're doing, you tend to make mistakes. When you're out walking, if you think about you're actually doing, you're likely to trip and fall. One of those quirks about the human mind.
I follow the same routine every morning without thinking about it. If something distracts me, I get confused and have to start again.

Not stupid just easily distracted at our ages. What hacks me off is ,I think about something, got o get it or do and forget before i even get up. Geez. That si scary. However I am list person always have been. I plan out the day on paper even the normal every day stuff. Calls to make, bills to pay, deliveries due in stuff like that. It helps me. Plus now if I go to do something in my mind I am- putting phone on counter, leaving glasses on night stand.. i repeat it to myself so will not forget.

Yesterday was a bad senior day for me, I wasn't happy burning up just one pot smoking up the house, I had to burn up for another warming up Jakes lunch. First time ever, usually I seldom burn up pot I left on.
Jake said,'whats going on, I said not a good time to ask stupid questions while I'm opening windows, doors, plugging in fans and choking on fumes for second time.

Last night I was trying to set up a mechanical timer that I use on a grow light. Even with written directions and a diagram I was flummoxed. It's a weird setup; a surge protector on a 6' extension with 8 outlets. Four of the outlets are "always on" and the other four are on the timer. Good grief, pushing those little pins in... gaaaaaaah.

Then I forgot to set the actual time of day on the dial so of course it didn't work. I had to take a break and regroup before I threw it out the window. I don't remember it being such a challenge last year. o_O

Here's one for ya. My tea bags have been breaking open lately so today I decided to fill up my coffee pot and set some tea bags in there. Well I ended up putting a cup of water in the microwave for tea and turned around and saw the coffee pot full of tea, go figure.:D

Ya see, that’s one of the perks of being married.
If a guy does stupid stuff then he doesn’t really have to remember what they were. His wife will remember and remind him of it somewhere down the line for him.

But yeah. I can cop to blaming my age for doing stupid stuff albeit I’ve been known to do some pretty weird stuff way before I got old enough to blame age for it.
