Well my loom came in yesterday, and I'm putting it together today with the help of my friend Robin. Of course there are instructions that need instruction on how to read the first set of instructions. It is a 48" loom, and the wood is nude or is that natural? Everything has to be waxed as it is being assembled, and then I'll need to buy some soft furniture wax to finish it off. What are some brand names of fine furniture waxes? Anyone still use furniture wax? Pledge isn't what I'm looking for. I'll need to go get something in the morning, so I can finish the loom. I hope to find a yarn store sometime in the next week, and see just how much it is going to cost to set up a small inventory of warp and weft yarns. Please send me some patience.
Good luck, Ina! I probably wouldn't get past the instruction phase but I have little patience except with the grandsons. For some reason I can spend a whole day helping the 4 yr old put a lego set together by "himself".
I can't help you with the furniture wax, Ina. I haven't waxed my furniture in ages. There is a product called Minwax (SP). We used it to wax my kitchen cabinets and door frames. It leaves a finish as smooth as silk. Good for you learning something new! Show us pictures of your progress.
Kudos to you Ina on your new interest in weaving. Hope it all works out! I'm at the phase in life where less is more..
I'm impressed. You're going to have so much fun! My sister built a loom and did woven placemats for everyone as well as other things. So cool!
We got everything put together, and no extra pieces left over either. Ok those are two names I recognize, so I'll pick some up in the morning. I haven't purchased any yarn yet, because I know me, and I would have the loom strung way before I got around to waxing the loom if the yarn was setting around calling my name. So here is a picture of the loom assembled and waiting.
Here's a link to Q&A's on all things weaving , @Ina I. Wonder including the type of wax to use.. http://www.gilmorelooms.com/InstructQ&A.html#best wax for loom
It's certainly quite comprehensive by the look of it Ruby...I hope it's helpful I'm always envious of people like Ina who are so talented artistically in so many ways, painting, crafts etc ...I'm completely the opposite...can't sew , knit or crochet except for the basics...useless at art or crafts ... I'd be completely inept all round if it wasn't for my photography , and I'm no professional at that, just an avid amateur. One of my sisters is an excellent cartoonist and poet.. My daughter among many other things is a wonderfully talented musician... Moi?...*meh*...born talentless!! Can't wait to see your first offerings from the Loom @Ina I. Wonder
Maybe once Ina gets good at it she can make us all one. When I was in HS, mohair sweaters were the thing to have.
