I took a walk around the lakes near my house this afternoon with my friend , her D-I-L and grandson , thought you might like to see some pics.. not even the end of March yet, and already we've had a gloriously sunny week.. No-one sailing yet, but still lovely to walk around and have a coffee at the Lake outdoor cafe
Thanks muchly Gloria... ...I took a whole load more, but I think that's enough to stop people being bored...
Oh how I wish I lived by the water @Holly Saunders...thanks for sharing those beautiful pictures with us. You are blessed to live in such beautiful surroundings.
Thank you so much Babs...yes we're very lucky..we live in the countryside, but with lots of lakes and rivers close by...so we pretty much get all the good stuff ..
Our swans have returned already. It is the earliest they have come back in the 27 years we have lived in this house.
I might have to move to Alaska for warm weather. We're still under a few feet of snow and have had only a few days of above-freezing temperatures here in my part of Maine.
Talking of that, we've had such a mild Feb & March..last night just after dark I went out in the garden and saw the hedgehogs had come out of hibernation.. I had to run and get them some water because we've had no rain for a while, but the concern is that we still might get a late frost ( probably unlikely now) but it's still possible...
The Northern Pacific is warmer than usual, but it is the wind flow pattern that is causing the warming. When this happens (blocking high) in the winter, it causes bitter, bitter cold, but when it occurs when the days have lengthened, it caused warm days. It was 22 F. this morning, but will get into the high 40s this afternoon while the sun is up. I think we are at about 13 1/2 hours between sunrise and sunset, and, when you throw in our long twilight, you get days that are 15 hours or more long. It June, we will have almost light around the clock. In the winter, we of course have the opposite, and clear skies mean the heat escapes and the nights and days are very cold.
It was cold this morning, and we can still get heavy frost into late May. Last year, we had a warm April, but frosts almost every day in May. The frosts magically ended on the 1st of June.
