I want this! It looks so cool! @Avigail David mentioned it in another thread, and I was reading about it last night. (Better viewed full screen on YouTube) Good News: The software is $70 Bad News: The hardware recommended, Microsoft Surface Pro 5, is $1300. The older version, Surface Pro 4, would still be about $900. (The video uses Surface Pro 3) Yikes!!! Surface Pro can also be used as a laptop. What do you think?
Ha! Ha! I don't want to write music from scratch. I couldn't do that. What I want to do is modify some already written songs, for the guitar. Prefer not to sing along . I want to pick the melody out on the strings instead, and come up with some accompanying notes, but not just chords. If I don't write it all down, I'll forget it. The guy in the video is just copying music off the paper. I thought it looked pretty easy. I've tried some free software, but none of them allows you to edit so easily, like that. I don't have a laptop. Just a pc.
@Nancy Hart Your post took me back to the early 70's and my struggle to learn more than the basic chords on the guitar. I'd been playing since Jr. high and thought I was pretty good. Just your standard Rock and Roll. No sheet music for most of that stuff and if it was around, I sure couldn't afford it. Then I heard 'Blackbird' by the Beatles and I knew I had to learn Paul's chord progression. I spent every free minute playing that album over and over and over till after about 6 months, I could play a pretty decent copy of it. So now, you go on Youtube and there are 10 people showing how to play it... Jazz chords and progressions are my new form of torture. Sometimes the mind is willing, but the fingers tell me I'm getting old! A demo of Paul introducing the song to the group.
@Tim Burr, Blackbird is a great song. I'm glad to know you are still at the guitar. I'm just a beginner! It was on my bucket list. I can play piano a little, but guitar is much harder, imo. I watched this video of Les Paul playing Sleepwalk when he was 90 years old, and decided I want to learn it the way he does it, kind of like you did with Blackbird. I got 19 years before I hit 90, but I better get started practicing soon.
As a side note, the guitar he fashioned for Mary Ford was the Gibson SG. It was a solid body guitar that was lighter and had a thinner neck than the more famous 'Les Paul' guitar made by Gibson. They are both great guitars, but for my money, the SG is the one made for ROCK... 'Les Paul' Gibson SG
What a delightful and talented man, Les Paul. Thanks for the video. I will listen to your ZZ Top songs in another thread. Just learned this ... "In 1948, Les Paul had an almost fatal car accident which affected his right arm and completely shattered his elbow. Reconstruction was impossible, and he would lose movement of his arm forever. In one of the most rock star moments in history, Les Paul asked the doctors to put his right arm in a fixed angled position, so he could keep playing his guitar. It took almost a year of recovery, but he continued to play, for more than SIXTY years, until his death in 2009. "
Bouncing between threads, here... @Nancy Hart I just read this June 2015 article that says although the program is optimized for the MS SurfacePro tablet... This might open up cheaper options for you, unless it's changed since then.
