Read the signs grandpa, you dumb :poop:!

STAY in your Vehicle!

How many signs do they have to put up in Yellowstone before people get the message? I mean the signs even have pictures of angry bison with warnings understood in every language. We can't blame lack of common sense on the youth in this case. Maybe this old fool was a vegan and thought all animals loved him.

I'll keep it short. Once, sometime back I was riding up US/rt 385 through Wind-Cave national pk in S/Dakota. I was on a motorcycle, I rounded a bend in the road, and there stood a small herd of Bison. They weren't moving. So, I just stopped. One big ass bull walked right over too me sniffed me, my motorcycle and such, I sat there frozen. @ one point his nose was right against my left knee, I was afraid he would burn his nose on the hot engine, and that might set him off. He didn't he just kept sniffing, snorting, looking @ me with that BIG eye. Finally, the herd moved off to the right side of the road, he gave me one last look and snort, then he casually walked off and joined them, and I went on my way ............ whew!

When we reached the motel, I had a few adult beverages ..........;)

Two things in your favor Buck. First you stayed still, posing no threat. His sniff confirmed you weren't a threat. Second, it wasn't mating season or he might have charged anyway. Once on a trip thru North Yellowstone, I encountered a bison herd and stopped and let them go by. The bull banged my pickup right fender as he passed. I never fixed it since it made a conversation piece. I have no idea why he did it, since I stopped and remained still. Perhaps he saw his reflection in the side mirror and felt threatened.

Back in the summer of 2006, we visited South Dakota. Went to Bear Country, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse Monument (not completed yet), Deadwood, Custer State Park and the High Plains Western Heritage Center Museum. While in Custer State Park, we came across a small herd of Buffalo alongside of the road. I stopped by the road and we both got out of the truck. I walked a short distance up the road to get some pictures and my wife walked down a small path. As I was returning to the truck, I noticed a Bull following behind my wife. Don't know where it came from but it was there. She had no idea that it was there. I told her "get off of the path" and when she did, the Bull continued walking down the path towards the herd. Got some great pictures, but it was somewhat scary also. IOW, something neither of us will ever forget.

Faye, I read the article and watched the video of that and "boy oh boy" did that bull chase after that older man and give him a boot in the air.

We were stopped in a "traffic jam" in Yellowstone and the bison were walking down the side of the road. There wasn't much room between the vegetation and the cars for them to get by but they were walking along anyway, brushing up against the cars.

I put the window down a little ways and touched their sides as they went by. Talk about wiry hair! And they smelled pretty bad, too.
