Woolworths Luncheon Counter

We didn't have a Woolworths. I worked at Grants But I don't remember food served there. I worked in the basement in housewares.:(
Grants is a name I've not heard in a long time. It must have been one of the first chains to bite the dust. We had Zayre, and a Montgomery Ward-type store called E.J. Korvette. They always had the $1 LP rack. If you liked slightly outdated stuff, you could fill out your collection cheap.

I remember it was a big deal, because we would ride the bus into town.

I was maybe 4 or 5.

We never ate at the counter, though. Mom was there to shop.

The best part was there were turtles in the pet department.

And there was an escalator that terrified me.

I have vague memories getting in escalator trouble when I was a kid.

"S-T-O-P. That must mean Push Me." The adults were not amused. Not my fault they put it at my level.
