What do YOU want this forum to be?

Hedi could go ahead and start her Roll Call thread, and it would be another place for alumni members to check in and ask about each other right now.
Once you have the whole forum set up and Introductions is in its own place, then you could make the roll call into a sub-forum at that time.
Right now, pretty much everything is just threads under the chatting umbrella area.

Not sure this fits here, but I'll toss it out anyhow. People may not agree, but maybe do away with the "popularity count badges" stuff this time. (Can't remember what it was called, but the number of "likes" or whatever.) Seems like some people got far too involved in that stuff and it served no real purpose. JMHO of course.

Agree. I never cared about or paid any attention to all the trophies, likes, etc.

The emojis are on the "more options" list in the Reply box. Look for the 3 vertical dots next to the little "painting" in the formatting options at the top. Click on the 3 dots and you'll see more options drop down, including the emoji selector.

Are you guys okay with the default board style. There are themes available that would change the looks and some of the operations, but that's just one more thing to keep updated, so I was thinking of just switching the XenForo log out for our own and leaving it as it is. Once we've fleshed the forum out, I might include some add-ons if they look interesting, and we can explore some of the new stuff, however.

I would like to add a few more categories and forums soon, so that the board doesn't look so undone. Which should we start with?

I like the same look as we had before, like you have now, and then if you want to make changes later, once the main forum is all complete and working well, we can work that part out a little at a time when something comes up that needs changed or added, or whatever.
For me, simple is good.

For new categories, maybe holidays, since we are close to Christmas, weather news, definitely news/politics, and something for pets. And automotive for all the tractor guys, and food/cooking for the Suzy Homemaker people .
Health is always an important category, too.

Sometimes, I have trouble thinking outside of what we had before while, at the same time, not wanting to build things up as big as they were, so feel free to make other suggestions.

How about the "Ourselves & Others" category (or another name, I don't care), which could contain the forums for "Pets & Critters," "Holidays & Traditions," and maybe "Personal Diaries," and we could include a forum for "Introductions" there if you'd like, or keep it in a single thread.

I'd just like to fill the forum out a little bit so it doesn't look so new.

If you just put in some basics for now, like you are talking about, then if anything needs to be split sometimes in the future, we can deal with it at that time.
