What do YOU want this forum to be?

Members only would be my preference for most of the topics subtopics - but I don't know how others feel?
I generally would be more comfortable sharing if the boards were not so open to the world.

I get a bit paranoid seeing how many guests and robots are snooping on what are some personal discussions and viewpoints.

You've probably seen that I answered your question elsewhere regarding robots, Earl.

Regarding Members Only...yeh, we discussed that at length in the original iteration of the forum. The problem is that most folks sign up for a forum after they've browsed it and like what they see. In a sense, casual access is about the only marketing tool a forum has. We're relatively safe from snooping if we don't use our real names. But it's certainly a trade-off with no perfect position.

I have participated in forums which have some boards open, which would give a good view of what to expect, and others boards limited to members who sign on, I know it's work for the administrators, but I can understand your point and I shall proceed with caution. Sometimes, government agencies will work with social media platforms to gather information or use it for digital surveillance. The FBI, U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) monitor public social media platforms for indicators of criminal or terrorist activity - and the definition of terrorist activity can be whatever those agencies want it to be, right?

No, I did not see a prior mention of robots but I will look for it, I know that the internet spies are all over the world, and even though the user names may be not our own there are still ways to pin down who posts.

It's sad that every corner turned decreases trust these days, huh?

There was an instance of girls being raped in a Virginia high school not far from where I grew up, and the administrators merely transferred the boy to another school in that district where he raped again. Outraged parents stormed the School Board meeting, and the Biden Administration labeled them to be "Domestic Terrorists." So I completely get it.

There are businesses that will not upgrade to WIN11 because of the massive spying it does. I will not install WIN11 on my laptop or "Apps" on my phone for that reason. I don't leverage all the computing power in my smartphone because--unlike some other folks--I don't rationalize "They can get your information anyway."

You can no longer buy a smart tv that hooks into your internet without it spying on you. LG recently installed a "software update" that puts Microsoft CoPilot (Microsoft's AI) on your television (which is tied into your home internet)...and you cannot remove it. Link Other smart tv manufacturers are doing similar things, because there is a market for our data. That security/privacy hole can only be plugged if you exclusively watch antenna TV or cable TV that is not tied to your internet provider.

I'm not sure exactly what exposure folks have on forums. I'm on a gun owners forum, and it's pretty much acknowledged that three letter agencies have member accounts there, but that's not mass data mining. Even a place like that is not concerned enough to have members-only access, and there's lots of "interesting" political talk that goes on. I think the greatest exposure is on social media sites that proactively hand your data over in ways that can personally identify you (Facebook and any Google product.) And not to make anyone too paranoid, but all the Fed has to do is create (or purchase) a forum through some shell corporation and they have direct access to the databases behind it.

I'm not overly concerned with what I post on forums like this one because I don't use my real name and I try to not say too much that will personally identify me. And I don't use the same UserName on multiple forums. I while I may spout nonconforming opinions, most forums won't tolerate advocating violence (although there's lots of it going unchallenged elsewhere regarding high-level politicians and ICE agents.)

It really sucks. The advent of television let them broadcast their message right in our living rooms, and the internet has them sitting on the couch next to us.

Is there going to be a place for conspiracy theories and rabbit holes, and such as that , @Ken Anderson ? I am trying hard not to just jump down a rabbit hole with Jake’s thread about Greenland, but I am not sure I can restrain myself much longer.
Plus, there is always Bigfoot and other cryptozoology stuff, and Jacob Petersheim did start that thread about the Chariots of the Gods book.
So many rabbit holes……so little time……

The Dems don't want us to have Greenland because the women are so darned attractive.

Yeah, I think so. Give me a day or so to unwind, then remind of all the stuff I said I would do, but didn't.

Is there going to be a special place for food, cooking and recipes, stuff like we had last go around , or do we just fit it in wherever it looks like it might work this time, @Ken Anderson ?
I miss the cooking and baking section we had before !
This is what I dropped in to say.
I'll set something up in a day or two. If I forget, remind me.

Just a reminder. :D. (When you get time, of course.)

Consider this your Official Reminder (i.e., "nag"). :D. Can you set up a Kitchen and Cooking section? There are a lot of threads that could be moved to that, and I am having a hard time finding some of them. Thanks!!

Do you need some help with moving threads and stuff? Once the sections are set up there is still a lot of tidying up that needs to happen.

Maybe when you add the conspiracy and paranormal into the forum, we can have something like history in there, too; so we can talk about ancient history, pyramids, tartaria, air ships, and stuff like that, @Ken Anderson ? I think it could fit under the Lounge area , maybe ?
