What Are You Doing Today?

I'm keeping myself in a state of anxiety over the upcoming weather event I cannot control.

I have enough bottled drinking water to last a week, but figured if I wanted to cook and the power was out (no well water), I'd use the distilled water I bought to flush my truck's cooling system (and then ended up having a mechanic do.) So I went out into the chilly and retrieved 6 gallons of distilled water and the jug of antifreeze, since Marie Stetler puts some in her drains to keep them from freezing.

I hard-boiled some eggs to have on hand, since they'll keep for a week under refrigeration (or in a snow drift.)

I made a half a batch of walnut cookies for my husband, and baked up some bacon for our omelettes. I did a load of laundary and looked out the window alot at the snow.

The public transit is running today after the city did some plowing. It looks like it was only one pass through on the route that goes by my house.

I did go outside and swept the gas meter after I got an email from the service on things to do in severe weather during the winter months. I wouldn't have done it otherwise. With the possible effects/affects of the freezing temps and inches of snow, I bit the bullet.

After that I got bold and started shoveling snow off the steps and made it almost to the sidewalk. I had two pair of gloves on, a mask, heavy work boots, two pair of socks, and my jacket had a flannel insert, wool scarf, and a hat very similar to this one.1769532693692.png I believe there is 6 inches on snow almost to my knees. It was very light which is one reason I continued as far as I did. When I felt my fingers getting cold I stopped. Hoping the temp would rise to 20 degrees and go at it again. I would have made a snowman but the snow didn't feel like it would stay together.

Got up this morning and for the first time in days, did not see fresh snow from overnight.

Got a call from the pharmacy to say my prescriptions are ready for pickup. I dread going but must. If I drive through slush, it will accumulate under the wheel wells, and when I park in the garage, it will melt and leave a mess.

Hah. Now I recognize you! :D. Be careful if you venture out on the roads.

Staying inside, not going to Kroger today. I think that maybe the black ice has melted, but not everywhere, and the overpasses here are still closed, I believe. Anyway, no sense taking a chance on it, so I just ordered from Walmart instead. If it keeps alive freezing in the daytime, we will try for Kroger on Thursday instead.

Kitties and dogs are all fed watered and all that kind of stuff , and I am making beef and pasta with tomato sauce for our main meal, which is usually sometime in the early afternoon.
I am on day 10 of the fitness tracker study, so still wearing both watches every day and doing the BP checks morning and night. I have another 20 days to go, and will be switching watches to the other wrist in a few more days. (The one on right wrist to the left wrist, etc)

Braved the 16 degree weather because the sun was shining. :) Seriously though, my girl was sounding bad when I started her up yesterday. It's been drastically cold and I fear it has started effecting her innards. She needed to be driven some to power up her alternator. So with the exception of my work boots, I garbed up and headed out into the blinding white expanse before me.

I decided to sit inside and let her run until I felt the heat coming through the vent before I go out and dig a path through the mountain of snowdrift in the front and back. Before that I retreated back inside to psych myself up again.

Using my custom breathing technique, not to die, I manage to clear a path both ways for easy access to park. Well, as expected my judgement was terribly off and found myself rocking my girl back and forth trying to get beyond the mountain of snow I had piled up in front.

Alas, my girl swerved a couple of times but I held the reins steady as we advanced slowly forward. We trekked around the block carefully assessing each turn needed to reached our destination. Luckily three streets had been cleared of snow being they were part of a public transit route. Only one courtesy stop for an oncoming driver who graciously waved as she passed by.

As we approached the last corner to turn I shook my head and thought "What a mess."

I grabbed a front end loader full of wood to tide me over the next few days. It's gonna be frigid through Sunday night. Monday and Tuesday are gonna hit 40'F, so I'll fire up the truck and full load the racks on my front porch.

Also went to my neighbor's to remove a big block of ice that was in front of his door. It must have slid off the roof and then froze into place. He wanted to take a blow torch to it. I grabbed my 5# sledge hammer and used a digger bar as a chisel, and eventually broke it up and got it outta there.

Went to Walmart to get some odds & ends. I did not make the pepper steak last night, so I grabbed some red & orange peppers to make it tonight. Friggin' 8 O'Clock Coffee went from $14 for a 36 ounce bag to $17 for a 30 ounce bag, and now it's up to $20 for the 30 ounce bag!!!

Propylene glycol is better on your septic that ethylene glycol. Keep that in mind if you care about it. I think that is what RVers use.

Thanks. I wondered. But since it's been exceptionally cold, I've kept my faucets running, which should keep the water in the drains going. Even if I used a little ethylene glycol, I gotta think it would get sufficiently.diluted.
