Vehicle Windshield Replacement

I have whined in another thread about the damage to my windshield on the Honda. We drove over to Safelite earlier today to see if they thought the damage could be patched or if I need a new windshield. The technician looked at it and said it could be patched but it would still look ugly and the patch will likely fail. Then he called the "master tech" over to see what he thought. MT said pretty much the same; he estimated a 75% chance of failure with a patch.

So I came home and called the insurance company to see if there would be any issue with getting a new OEM (original equipment) windshield. They said Safelite is their preferred provider so they would go with whatever their recommendation is. They transferred my call directly to Safelite and I made an appointment for Saturday morning to have the windshield replaced.

People on the Honda forum have stated that the Pilot OEM glass is backordered and sometimes takes a couple of weeks to get, so we'll see if Safelite has to reschedule me due to availability.

Have you had a windshield repaired or replaced lately? What was your experience?

I had the back windshield replaced on a 2002 Toyota Camry. The insurance company sent me to a place they said they always use & said they're
"skilled technicians." After they did the job, they said not to close the car doors with the windows closed or wash the car for three days; I guess to wait for the adhesive to dry. A week later, I washed the car & water leaked into the car. (yeah....skilled technicians).
I brought the car back & they did fix it; no more leaks.
Make sure to test for leaks. And maybe read some reviews on whomever does the job. The front windshield is very important for safety because it has to withstand the added pressure & impact of the airbags hitting it in a crash. That's why the OEM windshield is best.

I came out one morning to find a crack across my windshield. No sign of what might have caused it.

I called my insurance company and they gave me an authorization number and said to call Safelight.

I got an appointment for two days later, took it in and a few hours later...a new windshield. Easy-peasy.

I want OEM because my car is only 2 months old, plus it has a HUD (Head's up display), heated wiper zones (??), rainsense wipers, and acoustic insulated glass. I have read that generic windshield replacements don't "calibrate" correctly and I don't want another headache.

I checked the reviews on the local Safelite and they are very good, plus my husband had them replace the windshield in his F150 a few months ago with no problems.
