Has anyone watched this documentary yet? It's on Netflix and I'm going to start watching tonight.

Synopsis: A cult expert and her videographer husband embed themselves in a vulnerable FLDS community in Utah, where they discover disturbing evidence about Samuel Bateman, who claims to be the successor to imprisoned prophet Warren Jeffs.

I'm gonna guess the people following all of these so called prophets or whatever they claim to be have some sort of serious mental or emotional issues? I say this because I just don't see how this happens...

I found this:

I think there are lots of social cults these days flitting from one protest to another, full of unanchored folks who are looking to belong to something. We all have a little bit of tribalism in us, but there are people who have never "belonged" anywhere. [Insert diatribe on the intentional destruction of The Family.]

The story of Jonestown is an interesting one because some number of folks wanted out, and when Dear Leader ordered mass suicide, the survival instinct of many kicked in and they refused to literally drink the Kool Aid. So it's not like they submitted the entirety of their being to the prophet (although some did.) And the "prophet" resorted to lethal force.
