When I was younger I used to get tinnitus when i had an ear infection and then after 1 infection,the tinnutus stayed and I have had it for probably 30 years or so...

I was thinking MAYBE the infection this came from wasnt totally goton rid of and the tinnitus stayed!!

Im wondering if I get some penicillin and take a round of it like when I had an ear infection,would that MAYBE clear it up after all these years??

If there is a chance I wanna try!!!

Its harder to get penicillin now but you can still get it....

I’ve had it since around 1970 or so and the VA tells me that it’s not an ear problem but rather, a brain problem with no real cure.
Since @Don Alaska was a lab rat for some time, maybe he knows a little more about what penicillin can and can’t do.

So far as my own experience with tinnitus goes, I have this constant idling turbine engine going on in my head 24/7 which is kind of understandable since I spent a couple of years in and around helicopters with no ear protection.
Note: I don’t think the Army was quite aware that ear protection was even a thing during the Vietnam war years.

I haven’t even asked a doctor about it in some time but according to YouTube, there are a couple of dozen panaceas that clear the problem up in an instant and never to return. ( a slight bit of sarcasm there)

And…according to Dr. Google, there is supposed to be a med out there that a doctor can prescribe for tinnitus so since we switched PCP’s recently, maybe I should ask again.
Alas, I’ll probably be told to see another audiologist.
 
I have had tinnitus for as long as I can remember.

It did somewhat subside when I started chiropractic treatments, but returned in force when I got my third concussion- which could have cost me the farm for a second time.

I still live with it. It is worse when I need adjusted. It gets worse when I am overly stressed.

I have never heard of penicillin curing tinnitus, but I guess anything is possible 🤠

Have you discussed this with your PCP and ENT?
 
I've had tinnitus really bad for many years. I have a low rumbling noise like a generator & freight train, plus several high-pitches. When I didn't know what it was, I checked the whole house, inside & outside for water running. Lots of dental drilling really made it worse. When drilling upper teeth, the noise travels along bones, so plugging your ears does nothing. No way to avoid it.
Sometimes it's difficult to fall asleep. I'll set the TV to automatically turn off in 20 minutes. Sometimes that helps, sometimes it doesn't.
My tinnitus is worse after playing the piano or listening to music or exposure to just about any noise. I have serious hearing loss & when I tried hearing aids, it was much worse when I took them off.
 
I have had that problem, or one that feels like what it's described as being, with earaches before. If I had to dive into a resaca in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas to rescue someone who drove off the road into the water, I would often get an ear infection requiring antibiotics because, other than a few that were spring-fed, these resacas were nasty places to swim.

My wife has a big problem with tinnitus that she has been discussing with her doctor, but without a resolution so far.
 
Ya I was just wondering as everytime I had an ear infection in the 70s and 80s I took Penicillian and it cleared up the infection and thankfully the high pitch went away..

I guess I could try asking Marie.. Well I guess Ill have to if I want a bottle of Penicillian...


I hope your wife finds a solution soon Kenny! (And everyone else on this thread who has this)
 
It all depends on the underlying cause of your tinnitus. Nothing will stop tinnitus from nerve damage (sensorineural). I have had it for 30 years from nerve damage and it gets quieter at times and sometimes changes frequency. Usually it is just a loud frying sound. If I get a sudden very loud lower frequency roar, I sit down and do all the things I know to do to prevent impending vertigo.

All the cures out there for tinnitus are a waste. Find the underlying cause and then learn how to treat that cause, if possible. Keeping your electrolytes balanced helps even with nerve damage tinnitus. Tinnitus is NOT a disease! It is a symptom.

Occasionally, especially at night, I have the tinnitus that allows you to hear your heart beat. Very disturbing, but I have learned to deal with it.

Remember, no one else can hear your tinnitus. :sneaky:

Clinical hypnosis can help train the subconscious mind to disassociate the conscious mind and make tinnitus low level and unnoticeable. Also posting in-depth post, requiring a lot of concentration and mental recall, here on SOC, can also make tinnitus unnoticeable. :sneaky: Your welcome @Ken Anderson. ;)

Sometimes when my sugar is low, I can hear my heart beating. But I would only find it disturbing if I couldn't hear it. :giggle:
