The Coffee Thread!

I think that perked coffee is the best, too, @Marie Mallory ! We used to have a percolator, but i think it quit working and we don’t have it anymore.
We do have one that can work on the stove, but it took forever to perk; so it has barely ever been used. I really like the ones that are glass on the sides, like some of the old percolators used to be, and you can see the coffee percolating.
With this cold weather, I am drinking more coffee, too, and Bobby has been making a whole pot twice a day instead of just in the early morning.

I am having mine with the acacia, cocoa, and mushroom powder mixture, and it is always really satisfying to me. In the morning, I just have a plain cup of coffee with cream, but in the afternoon, I add all of the healthy goodies to it.
Amazon offers electric percolators starting at 18$.

Okay, i saw those, they are the stovetop ones, not an electric percolator. We have one of those, but we don’t have a stove anymore.
Yvonne, do you live near a Goodwill or some thrift shops? I imagine you could find a deal on an electric percolator there.

My favorite coffee is drip, but we are so used to the Keurig that we use pods most of the time. My drip pot is really handy during power outages, though. I heat water on my gas stove and use my old-timey drip pot.

I went to grocery and my Ninji Creamer came today, so I have the protein powder and 2 coconut's, fruit etc, and will start learning how to use it tomorrow.
3 days now no ice cream.
Marie and Yvonne, I am so with the both of you... good old percolated coffee all the way! Yummy! :coffee:

Me too, I don't care for instant coffee or instant grit's.

Beth we don't use the plastic cups either, too much plastic in everything now. I use stainless steel or glass only. Then I have to deal with my own poisons , cigarette's.

As mentioned in the Kitchen Gadgets thread, I ordered a Stanley stainless steel 48 oz french press coffeemaker. It is supposed to keep coffee warm for 4 hours with no electricity. If anyone is interested, here is the America's Test Kitchen review of french press coffeepots, including the new Stanley. (12 minute video)

I made the first trial run in the Stanley french press a little while ago. I followed the directions that came with the press and the coffee turned out almost like espresso... VERY strong. The directions are 2 tablespoons of coffee to 5 oz of water, which makes an extremely sturdy brew. I used McCafe french roast ground coffee since we don't have any coffee beans right now. I will order some fresh beans with our next grocery order.

We like the smoothness of the brewed coffee; it is not bitter even though it is stronger than we like. (And we like strong brewed coffee!) Now I'm testing to see how long it stays hot, or at least warm enough to enjoy.

I have an old Bodum glass french press, which is OK but has a small capacity and does not have any insulation to keep coffee warm. I haven't used it in years so I had forgotten how to make french press coffee.

In my last grocery order, I received a freebie box of Folger's Columbian medium roast k-cups. I say freebie because I didn't order nor pay for them, so I suppose someone else is mad that they didn't get their coffee. :D. When I call the store to report the extras, they always tell me to keep the stuff and enjoy since grocery items can't be returned.

Anyway... We tried to drink the stuff and it is truly nasty. It has an almost sweet undertone, kind of like a "syrup" note if that makes sense. Thankfully it was the small box of k-cups so my husband is slowly knocking them off. I noticed on the box that it states "Proudly roasted in New Orleans" which surprised me. I guess I never realized that Folgers is a Louisiana brand.

"Folgers coffee is proudly roasted and produced in New Orleans, Louisiana. The company has operated its roasting facility there since 1960. The New Orleans plant is one of the largest coffee roasting facilities in the world."

We used to drink regular Folger's ground coffee for many years and always liked it. The Columbian k-cups were disappointing.

We use to drink Folgers coffee decades ago, and we thought it was good. :coffee: But as time went on, something about it changed and then it wasn't good! It had no flavor. They must have started to grow a cheaper bean, or used the old left over beans that fell to the ground. ;)

Hey, guys, since my meds have been changed back to my original ones, I can drink regular coffee again. Boy, am I having a great time with that. Also, drinking an occasional glass of Baily's Irish Cream as well. Good to feel normal once again. This is not to say, I don't still have that A-Flutter, but, at least it's not off the spectrum.
