Protein drinks, green smoothies, and other healthy nutrition

Since most of the best bromelain enzyme is in that core, what i usually do is separate that and put it through the blender or food processor and then I can add it to a smoothie with no problem. Sometimes, I crush the whole pineapple, and then it can go in with cottage cheese or yogurt or in a smoothie. Either way, I try to save the core and blend it so that it is not too hard and woody to eat.

When I am having pineapple because of some kind of body or joint pain, I usually just eat nothing but pineapple (pineapple fast) until I start to feel better and the pineapple gets rid of the pain. But now, I am just going to get it all chopped up and put in a jar and then add some to my protein drink each day, more of a maintainence schedule than just a pineapple fast.

Since I do have some fresh pineapple slices frozen and first time in years some protein drinks I'll try this. Maybe it will help with the muscle, knee and lower back pain from the squats.

I have discovered that the portable Ninja blender does not have much blending power, so it will be fine for blending up a protein drink, but not if I am adding fruit or greens like spinach or kale. Also, it does not make very much, and I make mine and just have some on and off during the day, since it has the added MSM and creatine in it.
So, I got out the Oster blender, and re-blended my protein drink this morning, with the added spinach, and just stored it in the other container in the fridge where I can have some during the day.

I am reading Dr. Atkins anti-aging book, and he explains about the need for phyto nutrients and plant vitamins. I have just started it, but it is interesting.
I always check my favorite authors on Kindle and watch for the books to go on sale and then I buy them when they are only a dollar or two.

I am actually feeling much better, just in overall condition, since starting to have the protein drinks with the added MSM and creatine and mushroom powder.
I drink some first thing in the morning, keep it in the fridge, and have the rest later in the afternoon.
Today, this happy little song was running through my mind…….

Bean sprouts are healthy in a lot of ways, from the high concentrations of vitamins C and K to the proteins and fibers that help give them their distinctive crunch. They also have folate, manganese, phosphorus, and iron.
Some studies have shown that bean sprouts can help regulate chemicals involved in immune reactions. This can lower inflammation, helping to prevent autoimmune disorders and some cancers and possibly treat obesity and diabetes.
Worth looking into. You can get a pretty good sized bag of mung beans for sprouting pretty cheap. Sprouting them is easy, and the bag I have still sprouts fine even though it's several years old now.

I use a sprouting stack like:

You can also use a multitude of other sprouting jars and trays as well though.

I'm for sure getting off the Boost and Ensure protein drinks, thanks again Yvonne.
Marie, I am glad to hear that , I have been worrying and worrying about you ! They market those as being healthy for seniors, but they are full of seeds oils and lots of sugar in the regular ones.
If you look, you wrote in this thread how much better you were feeling and the muscle injury was healing, and then you bought the boost, and after that started writing how much worse you are hurting.

I am praying for you, and hoping that the doctor can do tests and take care of you tomorrow, but I do believe that not having those inflammatory seed oils might help , too.
Just a good whey protein and mixed with whole milk is what both Bobby and I use.

Thank you so much. Just a couple days ago I was bragging on you to a old friend who has kidney failure, said I do as you and take Kidney Restore you told me about. She is going to check it out.
I wish I'd paid more attention about the protein and inflammation. Pass 4 months I'm in a daze with this pain. Then of course losing my granddaughter who will be buried Tuesday.

I for sure do not have all the answers either, @Marie Mallory . But since I am not supposed to take any pain medications or have procedures like a knee replacement because of the heart failure, I just keep searching for more natural ways to take care of myself and help with the aches and pains we get while growing older.

Not everything I try works, so I just read books, watch videos and play guinea pig with my body to see what helps and what does not. Even doctors and nutritionists can’t agree on what is best for a person, so i think that just trying things and finding out is about the best we can do.
Getting my lab tests done really helps me, too; becasue i can see what is improving and what is not , and know where I have to try and find an improvement solution.

Also, it is not the protein that is causing inflammation, it is the sugars and seed oils that they put in the ready-to-drink products. Even the Atkins protein drinks have seed oils, so I stopped buying those. They are low carb, and not bad for bottled products, but still made with inflammatory oils.
Dairy has butyrate in it, which is what helps with gut health and inflammation, and it is why we call butter by that name, so just mixing the whey protein with whole milk gives you the protein and not the other stuff.

Fresh or frozen pineapple has an enzyme--bromelase/bromelain--which will digest the protein in your drink and may make it thinner. Just sayin'
For the reason you mentioned, Bromelain is not only one of the best meat tenderizers but also one of the best anti-inflammatory foods or supplements out there.
For a tenderizer, either the powder from a capsule or from a macerated pineapple core can be used in a marinade for a tough piece of meat.
As an Anti-inflammatory, the trick is not to consume any protein prior to downing a capsule or eating pineapple or a papaya.

I found a video about the protein drink that Jack LaLanne used to make.
I think that this one is updated because it adds a scoop of protein powder as well as the raw fruit and veggies. I don’t have everything that is in the video this morning, so I will add it to my Walmart order, but for today, I mixed up a protein drink adding what I did have.

I used some fresh made oat milk, an apple, a carrot, apricots, and a scoop of protein mix, and blended it thoroughly with lots of ice. I ended up with around a quart of the fresh drink, so I am having some now, and will have more later in the day. In the video, it also added a banana and some mango, and used apple juice instead of oat milk; so I have added those to my Walmart order.

I ordered a pre-workout drink powder that is going to arrive today, so when it gets here, i will add a scoop of that in with the protein drink. It is supposed to give you extra energy.

Since I started this new clinical trial, I'm supposed to get more protein in my diet. I found a protein plant-based powder (I have dairy intolerance) that's chocolate-flavored and not too disgusting. I blend it with half almond milk and half water and throw some banana in or sometimes a tablespoon of peanut butter. It's not too bad dressed up a little.
