Yes, and the shiny texture of the pages did nothing in the way of cleaning up ones behind!

I can remember a quarter getting me a bottle of pop , small bag of chips , a bar and still money left over for penny candy , five for 1 cent . Man times have changed lol .
 
Yvonne, and everyone here, I may be a stint younger than most here, so my recollection of some things may be out of step with yours, but just looking at Yvonne's posted picture, I'm reminded of the Super Slider Snow Sates we had, the aluminum flying saucers, the Crazy Carpets, bot did those ever fly down a snowy hill, and we even had oversized tire inner tubes!

What a great forum and great people here, talk about reliving the past as if we are in it right now! Thanks to all!

Piggly Wiggly stores here still sell old fashioned penny candy. They have a case filled with bins of it. You put what you want into a bag then take it to the checkout and pay for it. I'm not sure it's a penny but it is cheap. I remember Mary Janes and peanut butter logs. Mary Janes stick to your teeth so don't buy them if you have false teeth. :)
 
There was a legacy grocery store in our neighborhood. It was a whistle stop for the W&OD Railroad (Washington and Old Dominion.) They had a HUGE penny candy counter. I think 90% of my paper route money get spent there.
