New to the site

I grew up in the UP of Michigan, where there was a history of Cornish settlers who came to work in the copper mines, bringing what has now become an Upper Peninsula tradition of pasties. My family came from Sweden, though.
Not being smart …..but have you got a crocked little finger ..Ken , ??

my hubby had a real bad curled little finger and when he eventually was refereed by the G P , to a specialist , he was told many people with Swedish heritage have that issue …. His DNA test a couple of years ago confirmed he had Swedish history

Oh course we’ve never confirmed if it’s true ~ or it’s ….some bit of miss information he was told ..by the specialist ….
it was way back in the mid 1990’ he had surgery to fix it , he had a big zig zag cut on on the palm of his hand from his finger to his wrist

We live in a very much Cornish history of copper mining ….and Cornish pasties .

We have a huge Cornish festival every 2 years …

After doing a bit of family research online after our DNA tests we found His GG grandparents ~ and mine ~ buried Mtrs apart in our local cemetery where we live

Copper mining ceased about 100 years ago ….thats when many jumped in the train to move in NSW ( Broken Hill ) and other towns like Burra as well as towns in the the Adelaide hills of which was ~ and still is very much German heritage / settlements areas

Copied this .
Broken Hill is a frontier mining town in the far west of New South Wales, in the Australian outback.

No, no crooked finger, but my DNA is nearly all Swedish, with smaller portions of Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, and Northern Russian, and no others.

It’s apparently got a name ..
Risk factors for Dupuytren contracture include:

  • Age. Dupuytren contracture occurs most commonly after the age of 50.
  • Sex. Men are much more likely to develop Dupuytren than are women. In men, symptoms may be worse and progress more quickly.

  • Ancestry. People of Northern European descent are at higher risk of the disease.

My DNA came up a 12% percentage near Belgium / Luxembourg ….. and i thought rubbish ….no way …..but as a dug deeper into my fathers history on one of the sites …..i found his mother ( my grandmother came from Germany )
I met my father for the first time when I was 24 years old ….

I also have a Norse ancestry, although my fingers were straight, fate cut one off with a glass baby bottle when I was a toddler to bend it up a little, they just sewed it back on, but it never did bend again.
Mama said I was bringing her my brothers baby bottle, stopped to a little jig [ I think I came out dancing] it broke, cut my index finger clean off.
Kids in school made fun of it, so I just joined in and became a star.
My ex would say, " get that damn wooden finger out of my face ".

Many many thanks to Ken for having this forum back again..

Hi Steve. Glad you made it back to the new/old forum! I think you had the highest post count on the old board so you'll have to get busy again. Hope you and your wife are doing well and keeping warm. Are you still low-carbing? We'll have to start a "what's for supper" thread.
