Moving!

Ok, we will correct ourselves, "somewhat" that is: Our choice is to meet married couples, somewhat in our age bracket, to be friends with that have "somewhat" of the same interests we do. We wouldn't rule out meeting a single person, but definitely prefer a married couple. When I was involved in PRCA rodeo, none of the guys I knew, or even myself, done it full-time. We all had full-time jobs and done rodeo on weekends.

Any rodeo fans that we have talked to, get very surprised when we tell them that we have pictures of us with World Champions hanging on our walls, from both NFR Autograph Sessions in Vegas to being at the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies in Colorado Springs. When we ask them if they have met/heard of any of the Top 15 Contestants in PRCA and follow them during the year, most have said "no, why?" Most rodeo fans only go to their hometown rodeo, whereas we've gone to numerous PRCA rodeos on the Eastern Slope aka Front Range of Colorado and we remain yearly paid members of the Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs. IOW, folks, we follow PRCA rodeo very, very, VERY closely!

Funny, in a different forum, some years ago, I stated that we won't have anything to do with folks that smoke. We got pretty criticized for saying that, however, one person replied and said, "if they don't want to associate with people who smoke, that's their choice and they shouldn't be criticized for it. I'm the same way."

As far as John's reply about my wife's former girlfriend, her (pretty much) exact words to us were, "as far as I'm concerned, every farmer and rancher should be buried. I have absolutely no use for either." With her saying that, my wife ended the relationship she had with her and I totally agreed with her doing that.
Cody, I think it is great that you have such a passion for a past sport you were involved in. You have to realize that while many folks out there that have been involved in cattle ranching and also rodeo may not know the current top 15 PRCA contestants or have photos with them hanging on their walls, taken at the annual gala, they know more about rodeo and its history than you can imagine. For me and many I know, it is just part of life and something we have been around all our lives. We don't know or understand city living, especially in an apartment, but I certainly wouldn't let that stand in the way of having a friendly discussion on the patience required by cowboys on a cattle drive, the opposite of the timed events at rodeo.

Note that some are walking since they got tired of sitting on their horse while the drive moves 1 MPH and 2 MPH top speed. It was a days work moving 300 plus head to summer pasture. No fancy rodeo cowboy :poop: involved. Too dusty, hot, and boring for the stereotypical cowboy fans. No cheering crowd or any glory, just another day here in the wild west where the top 15 are the old cows in the front that know the drill.

I don't look down on people who smoke because it's their life and their decision... okay, maybe I do a little bit, but mostly I haven't wanted to spend a lot of time with people who smoke because I don't like being around the smoke. I don't know that I buy into the second-hand smoke theory as much as they like to make it out to be, because it was mostly a way of being able to exercise their will against others, but I don't enjoy being around cigarette smoke.

As for rodeos, obviously, I'm not a big fan like @Cody Fousnough, since I never even liked riding horses, but I have been to quite a few rodeos, covering them from the EMS aspect, mostly, but also attending them, and if we had a rodeo near here, I'd go.

Anyway, folks, guess that enough talking about rodeo fans, whether they are serious ones, like us, or not. What we do know, without a doubt, is the type of people we would become friends with and those that we'd stay away from. We will simply attend local Cowboy Church in the near future and see what happens.

Sounds like a good plan. At least you know they have some common interest. I would think you should meet some folks of like interest at the PRCA Hall of Fame gala coming up soon. Glad you are settling in your new home.

We won't be going to the Hall of Fame Induction in July. Hopefully next year, but not this year. Heck, even the Larimer County Fair's PRCA rodeo is completely sold out this year. We looked it up. We live right down the freeway from the Fairgrounds. The Greeley Stampede slack has started, but their rodeo, just like CFD, is just too long for us. Besides that, when we went to one performance of the Greeley Stampede in 2023, it became so windy, we had to leave. A t-storm hit, but, because we left when we did, we missed the storm.

Way to go, Faye!! We both think it's ...........................(you put the word/description in).
I'm not a human mind reader, so I have no clue. I am good reading the minds of livestock and they always loved me at feeding time. :sneaky:

Since I am wearing a cowboy hat, boots, jeans, and belt with rodeo buckle and have NO TATOOS, I am guessing y'all think it is great.

Anyway, in conclusion, I do remember where most every place is here. The restaurants we use to go to, are still here and we've been to all but one. We were very surprised, after we stopped by our old apartment complex, that both the Maintenance Supervisor and her Assistant, are still working there. We drove up to Fort Collins last Saturday and had breakfast at Waffle House, that we had been to a number of times when we lived here before, and my ham/cheese omelet was great. In fact, the one older cook remembered us! From there, we drove down the street to Centennial Livestock Auction where a Hay Sale was going on and cattle were coming in for the following week auction. After that, we went to the Firearms Store, across from Waffle House, to see if the Indoor Range was still open and it was. From there, it was a stop at Boyd Lake State Park to get the registration for our boat taken care of. Went by the lake and it was unbelievably low! The lake hadn't gotten any water from Greeley for this summer. There is "no way" that we could put our boat on the lake this year! The marina and rentable slips were even closed. So, we'll try and start our boat at the Boat/RV Storage we are at, and if we can't get it started, will take it to the same Marine Service we used before and see what they can do. If we can get it started, we will wait until September and then take to the Marine Service and have it "winterized" for the coming winter here.

As for the apartment complex we've moved into, we will do our Lease Agreement (1-year), than possibly, move to a different complex. But, between now and then, we will definitely do some "downsizing" of what we have.
Of course I can’t comment on your country , however in Australia parents seem to have no control over kids as young as 2-3 years old they just run amok in shops / streets and malls , I recently had A young kid come out of nowhere…. in a chemist and run right into me ( I was walking out of the chemist ) and the presumed mother said oh he’s ok …..what about me ….i wasn’t in the wrong …I was walking where it was clear of anyone ….its just as well I’m fairly steady on my feet or would have knocked me over

What a pity about the noise above you , maybe that’s why others left , at least you have a year to keep looking for a seniors unit

Thanks for your understanding, Kate. There are those that understand and those that don't. We think that "those that don't", may have never lived under kid/kids being very noisy. However, in defense of "family" type apartments, kids' noise is just part of living there.

Unfortunately, senior apartments are a lot smaller than what we have now and have had before. We'd have to get rid of a lot of things that "collectables" to us. IOW, we'd really, really have to downsize quite a bit. There might be less noise, unless any seniors living close, as in above or to the sides, have their small grandchildren over, then................"let the noise begin again".

Heck, I've had adults way worse than any noisy kids. I lived in an apartment where a firefighter moved into my building...at 3AM. His unit was on the second floor. He propped the main entrance door open so he could shout to his friends in the parking lot: "BRING UP THE COUCH NEXT!!!" At 3 friggin' AM.

When he worked overnight shifts, he would put his record player on full blast and have the same side of the same album play over and over and over and over all damned night long so it would appear that he was home (I guess it was his redneck security system.) The cops could do nothing about it because the guy was not home. The apartment manager was useless. To this day 50 years later, I cannot listen to any song off of Side B of Steely Dan's Aja album...it makes me enraged.

So kids being kids in the middle of the day is no big deal. They have to live. And I've been around old people who play their TVs full blast all day and all evening because of hearing issues. So an "All Seniors" center might not be an improvement.

Apartment living will not work for us until SO gives up our hobbies and that will take a while. The neighborhood is rather mixed from grandparents with manicured yards, families with teenagers and families with little people. Lots of little people. Families with 3-4 seem to be the norm. Even in the heat they are playing outside. Parents join in games, hang out at the mail box, drag chairs to the curb for day care happy hour. Noise? Some squeal can crack windows:) Let them have fun. There is always ice cream in the freezer for the kids and the parents are fine with it.
