Men In Society

Things have changed over time. There is an awful lot of "politics" between the sexes now, though I'd frame it more as "culture."

I don't watch "Landman," the show used for illustration in this video. I also don't have daughters, or I might have a more visceral reaction.

This little essay around the episode cited here goes into the predicament of fathers in society today. Is his thesis exaggerated? Is this guy being "misogynistic?" How fair is this characterization of this aspect of society today?

How does this look from the female point of view? I'm not trying to go "all manosphere" here but as an old man I can't believe how much this stuff seems to have been normalized.

I think it's just a dramatization of someones imagination, and real life is not that way in most cases. The ordinary doesn't sell.

I agree. We have daughters and granddaughters and believe me, this behavior is not typical in our family. I realize that society is vastly different from when we were young, and even from when our children were young, but so far I have no experience with the level of disrespect in those video clips.

One new twist on modern society is the number of young men who have never had a date, or even approached a young woman at all. A disturbing number are content to live on their parent's sofa, playing video games while life passes them by. I'm not sure if it's pure laziness, fear of rejection, or just generally having no life goals that is the problem.

One DIL told me she didn't know what she would do if her husband (our youngest son) should die as other men she knew were "so soft." I think men of this generation shy away from women because they have been told for almost their entire lives that masculinity is toxic and something to be eliminated. They are afraid to approach women because they fear they will be called names and be told how unnecessary they are and how they are so evil and a detriment to society. When fed this all your lives and don't have the ability to think for yourself now, it is a tough role to play.

Since I was a homeschool dad for 22 years, I did a lot of thinking and study on the role of men in society and in the family, and it has shaped the way I think about the role of men and the function of fathers in today's world.

I think this kind of misandry may actually be the core problem. It leads to a death-spiral of women overvaluing (while degrading) themselves, and men walking away from an unwinnable game.

I don't see how this trend is ending well for "either team." With women writing off 80% of men as beneath them, what keeps most of them from ending up alone with 12 cats themselves?

I don't pretend to understand the young people of today. I suppose that has been the lament of every aging generation. Also, the reality of things is seldom mirrored online or in movies.

When our kids were in high school in the early 2000's, dating was already being phased out and they seemed to travel in packs with their friends. My daughters went to functions with a bunch of kids (male and female) instead of waiting for the phone to ring and being picked up for a "date". It made me kind of sad, really.

Of course the only constant in life is change, so I suppose they will work things out for themselves. It seems that young people have a way of pairing up and creating a family, though it may not look like the traditional family that was the norm.

Show me an unbiased accurate statistic. There is always a first. Public media needs something to write about. This is the flavor of the week and we work it for all it is worth. What will be next?

I can only say what I see in our circle and our neighborhood. Some of the pressure to have the perfect family with a small house, 2.5 kids and double income seems to be gone. Education is a big factor. Matching past the realm of raging hormones. Planning the future not just to next year.

We did run with our packs until we did not. The closeness did not allow newcomers so the pack numbers dwindled.

I think Japan's been in that mode for at least a generation. Hopelessness for the future does that to people.

I kind of feel like I need to explain myself, but it is hard to know where to begin.

So if you have the patience, here is a couple where the guy has moved into doing reactions to old music. Some times he has his wife along. They lost their 1st two children to premature stillbirth, but have since had 2 daughters.

If you follow through and watch this reaction perhaps you'll see the relevance.

They went through bad times and nearly divorced. However they pulled things together with some help and seem to be doing well now.

Where does this figure in? I'm not sure, but it seems so much more healthy than what many people are thinking, saying, doing...🤷‍♂️

Sad reality. Sick people created a corrupt movement that now threatens humanity with extinction through demographic collapse.

The Myth of "Early Feminists Meant Well" - Debunked

Could this be the real root of Trump Derangement Syndrome?

I agree with what she said, but TDS is merely a product of the Uniparty and the global media against any disruptor. Other nations foment and fund this to further the destruction of this nation.

Jacob--I'd love to hear your thoughts and discuss, but I'm not up to watching more videos. Can you just give the Cliff's Notes and your thoughts?
I have actually tried a couple of times, but could not post it because I came off as some Iranian Mullah or something. I haven't found a way to string my words together. I'll keep trying.

Ditto! Who watches videos or reads articles linked in a discussion? I rarely do. It has to be extremely interesting and the poster needs to preface posting such with interesting discussion. I had rather just read the posters summation. I don't care about some young persons take on what ever, I am on a seniors forum to read old folks concepts, opinions, and experiences.

I will often watch videos embedded in the forum because I watch a lot of Youtube videos, anyhow, but I rarely click on links to newspapers, blogs, or other online sources. IMO, the best use of links is to include them for those who are interested enough to want further information, but they should not be used in lieu of any information at all. Videos are best used to supplement posted text, if only to give someone a reason to want to view it. That said, some videos are self-identified, so I will sometimes just post a video, hoping that you'll realize that I don't post a lot of them, and, except for music videos or threads asking what someone is watching on Youtube, I will usually include at least some information with it.
