Look at what you eat and how much of it.
Beyond written diet plans, an important aspect of any weight-loss program is getting past the idea that you have to clean your plate. If you eat slowly enough, you can become aware of the moment when you've had enough. Stop there.
Preaching to the choir, sis. Lol.A bottomless appetite for sweets has always been my biggest problem.
Dave you really did good with these lifestyle changes in diet and exercise.I just eat right and exercise.
When I had a heart attack back in 2017, I tipped the scales at 248. I smoked, had horrible eating habits, horrible sleeping habits, didn't exercise at all, and my blood type might as well have been mayo.
That heart attack? I got the big picture right away. Six stents will make you sit up and take notice.
Stopped smoking and started eating right. Walking, believe it or not, is in fact, exercise. LOL.
Now I hover around 207, blood pressure stays between 115-130. I go to the gym 4-5 times a week, without fail. Even if I don't feel like it, if I just go and walk on the treadmill for 30 minutes, at least I did something.
You can have a slice of pizza or a cheeseburger every once in a while. Just make it a treat, not a lifestyle. I had a candy bar the other day, but other than that, I can't remember the last time I had something purely decadent.
There's a certain mindset that goes along with it. Don't eat until you're full. That's overeating. You eat your plateful, and go back for seconds without really thinking. Am I still hungry? The answer is probably no. But you get that second plateful because you're not full.
So, anyway, dieting, I guess, for me, is just watching what I put into my body.
I just looked up Yvonne's Starch Solution Diet and the main thing I like about it (besides starches, yum) is it's plant based which means I can cook for myself and my Vegan son at the same time!
The other thing I researched was inflammatory foods. Lots of different lists out there, but they all agree -- Sugar Be Bad. A bottomless appetite for sweets has always been my biggest problem.
Mayne a little more balanced diet? I need to get back on Kidney Restore too. I forgot about it with so much going on.I am concerned becasue my kidney function has dropped quite a bit since last November when we had lab work done. It was up to about 51 back then, which is almost out of kidney failure, but has since gone down to 35, which is a large drop , and concerns me. I am hoping that now that I am doing the Starch Solution Diet again, that the kidney function GFR will start coming back up and be better by the next time i have lab work done.
I stopped doing the low-carb and went back to the vegetarian program this month, so it will take a whole before it has a chance to produce results. I need to do better at taking my Kidney Restore also. I have gotten slow about adding it to my morning coffee, so I will start being more regular with adding that, to foods, too.
I did add some to my black bean burger mix, and I think I might have put some in my hummus, too. For sure, I can start doing that and add it to more foods.
“. Animal protein—from cows, chicken, fish, or any other animal—tends to be hard for the kidneys to process, encouraging a gradual loss of kidney function. This is of most concern to people with diabetes, high blood pressure, or other conditions that may have already eroded their kidney health.”
— Get Healthy, Go Vegan, Neal Barnard
“More concerning than what is missing is the fact that the concentrated, isolated proteins burden the liver and kidneys, which play a key role in excreting surplus protein from the body. In time, protein overload wears out these organs, potentially contributing to outright liver or kidney failure, especially for people who already suffer from organ damage. Excess protein leaves in its wake an overly acidic environment that leaches calcium and other materials from the bones, over time leading to osteoporosis and kidney stones.”
— Starch Solution, Dr. McDougall
You are totally right, @Marie Mallory ! One of the things about the whole holiday season was lots of animal foods, like turkey or ham for Thanksgiving and Christmas meals, lots of pot roasts and heavy meat soups. So, over the winter I had way too much of the animal meat and no where near enough veggies or fruit.Mayne a little more balanced diet? I need to get back on Kidney Restore too. Yvonne, we get to feeling better and forget why sometimes, huh? I got off the kidney Restore after this cancer thing and now will start it again. My kidney flo is not good so back to KR.You are totally right, @Marie Mallory ! I just made the change back to eating a much healthier diet a few weeks ago, so I am thinking that by next fall when I have labs done again, the kidney results should be better again. I am definitely going to be making the effort to heal it again !
I have to wonder if any of those extreme diets won't be harmful to our organs in the long run.
Exactly.I think that a lot of different diets can be a good thing if you have a plan for afterward. Once you've reached your desired weight, what are you going to do then?
