ID.me likely scam, beware!

Twice in the last few months I have recieved an official looking email stating that my account was compromised and my current password was deactivated for security reasons. There is a supplied link to reset your password. Of course I was suspicious and deleted the email. I logged into my ID.me account and my old password worked just fine and there was no messages or security alerts.

It looks legitimate, I wonder how many seniors have gotten scammed?

I have not heard of an ID.me account. What is it for, and how can people get scammed if they have one ? It seems like sending those kind of emails for almost any kind of an account is prolific nowadays. I have had them supposed from Amazon, and other places that i don’t remember at the moment.

Thanks. Like Yvonne, I have never heard of "ID.me" but I do receive scam emails and texts occasionally. Scammers are getting more clever, too.

A couple of years ago, I got a similar email about my Amazon account. They even used Amazon's logo to make it look official. I spoke to someone at Amazon; they said "just delete."

The latest scam I remember was fake texts from the "toll road authority" indicating that we had outstanding tolls and were about to be prosecuted. All I know is, it's hard to accrue tolls while sitting in my recliner.

I've received a few texts and emails recently about "confirming my order" or delivery address for things I've not ordered. I received a text last week from a realtor asking if I wanted to sell my property. The address she referenced was a place I lived for over 30 years, but sold in 2010. I'm pretty sure my information (and phone#) was sold from the records of that town I lived in, which sent me a letter some months ago informing me that their databases has been hacked.

I get similar Amazon scam attempts a lot, in email and in text. However real things might look, I don't click on links like that. I just go to my Amazon account and check to see that everything is processing fine. I've gotten phishing scams posing as PayPal, too.
