Can you stop sending me threads to my email? I set that up for a specific kind of notifications and then you needed a gmail account to sign up. I just deleted hundreds of soc emails.

You need to go in to the Account Details section of your Profile under EMAIL options: Receive news and update emails and uncheck the box.
Then go in to Preferences and uncheck all the boxes related to receiving Email.

You do not have to have a gmail account to register here for the forum. I do not use one, and I think that any legitimate email will work. If you go to your Account Details (as John Brunner suggests), you will also see a place to change the email account that you use for this forum, so it can be any email account that you want to use, Mary.
As @John Brunner says, you can do that in your profile email options.
