"Digital Energy"

Digital Energy seems to be a marketing term for coming changes in our energy infrastructure.

One of the early large-scale projects is IMEC: India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor. This is very likely what the political landscape of the Middle East is being prepared for right now:

... a proposed multibillion-dollar, multi-modal transport and energy network linking India to Europe through the Middle East, launched in September 2023. It comprises rail and shipping routes, energy pipelines, and digital cables, aiming to accelerate trade by 40% and enhance economic connectivity between India, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Jordan, Israel, and Europe.

Initial concept:

IMEC Concept.pngThe oceanic shipping links now appear to be in disfavor. Instead pipelines and electrical transmission lines would be used. Some by land, some (like to India) undersea. Portions of this are already in place.

"Digital" refers mostly to the way "settlement" (payments, billing) would be managed. But that also indirectly refers to the energy itself.

Instead of moving crude oil and LNG around by ship, products would b refined closer to their source and the more compact products shipped by rail and pipeline instead.

Also a huge solar power buildout is planned. This power would not only be sent on to consumers, but used near generation to create products. One of them: desalinated water. Another: compressed hydrogen.

While hydrogen has numerous issues of its own, it is a far more compact and cheap way to store generated electricity than batteries. And it too can be moved by rail and by pipeline. Not many cars will probably use it, but there are several ways to turn it back into electricity at scale.

This pretty much sticks a spoke in Iran as far as regaining finances and power. Those who have been providing support (and uranium) lost their economic interest there. And nobody has to give a damn about Hormuz or the Suez.

This kind of thing could also be deployed elsewhere in the world. Perhaps from Venezuela and Alaska to the US in the middle?
