Bladder and Urinary issues

I have been challenged with bladder and urinary issues for years.
Over the course of time, I have seen Uro's, have tried multiple meds
for treatment, and even several procedures with hopefulness of
truly correcting my struggles. I have specific bladder/urinary diagnosed
conditions.

Today in my early 70's, I can't say that much has improved on any
regular successful basis. I have chosen to live with it, with no further
treatments, meds of any sort. I am done. I guess there is some peace
in that and having arrived at my decision. So, no more tries for the
about past year. I'm just sailing, so to say, on my own.

I am unable to locate an existing bladder thread, it might likely be
here on the forums already.

Janine--I don't have issues very often, but I have had an occasional UTI and that is misery. I'm sorry you have to deal with ongoing issues. I know you have heard "drink lots of water" a million times so I will spare you. :D.

My PCP has noted that my kidney numbers are getting worrisome and that concerns me a little. I guess a certain amount of urinary tract issues is fairly common at our age.

Hi Beth, yep UTI'S are miserable. I might get two a year and always have to treat with antibiotics which correct it
fast.

I like forums to chat about this stuff, and I am also on a couple Health forums for discussions, but because I am happy
to be back here on this forum again, thought I'd throw the topic out again.

My diagnosed conditions are : Interstitial Cystitis (advanced) BPS, OAB, and these are the basics, along with I have had
Cystoscopies, bladder stretching procedures, bladder physical therapy, seems I might be forgetting some, lol, anyway
it's been a journey for me of many years. I love to read' and so keep up to date on multiple related books and even
when I have changed my diet (and that is not always consistent with food choices) It pretty much stays the same.
I even had the INTERSTIM permanently inserted in my sacral area about 10 years ago. The first three years it seemed
to be of benefit, but then no longer after that. Well, I will say this, it's been one heck of a ride...

I also have a very thickened bladder for the past about 10 years.

I press on, we have to, enjoy my life and all things as they come.

Like yourself, I have to watch my kidney numbers, so far doing good.

Thank You Beth for your kind words and sharing ...

PS: yep, drink water, I am faithful to that but arg....

Several of us have experienced urinary difficulties, but most that I know are male. Our problem usually is that we can't go, while the females I know have a leakage problem. Maybe there are ladies here who have issues but haven't discussed them.
Hi Don, yep the males get challenged also. It's an interesting topic. ;)

Oddly my conditions have not created much leakage, that to me is parculiar though.

I was just remembering that I have a slight cystocele (prolapsed bladder), which is the probable cause of my occasional UTIs. It usually doesn't cause me any issues, thank goodness. My doctor said it is likely due to having had 2 big babies (8lb and 9lb 🫨) and aging. (Seems like everything is "due to aging" these days.)

Because of my heart failure and related issues, I also have kidney failure. Mine was down to around 36, and it has to be around 60+ to be normal.
I take acacia powder, which is sold on Amazon as Kidney Restore. My function is now almost back up to normal, and i think that the Kidney Restore helps.
It is a tasteless powder and you can add it to foods like oatmeal, or even in your coffee.
I don’t know if it would help a bladder condition or not, but you could try some and see if it helps. It comes with several ebooks about urinary tract information and some natural treatments that you could try.

great info Yvonne, thank you. I will take a look at your link for sure.
I over the years and per Uro suggestions, have taken both bladder
support supplements and even Kidney Restore to try and keep on
top of things. I prefer the tasteless powders and as you mentioned
that can be added to some foods and fluids. Right now my functions
are good, stable, but I like to keep reading and learning.

Yvonne, your medical condition and related issues, and kidney failure,
I know have to be a huge challenge. My having read some of your postings
here before the forum had closed down, I know you are a wise and educated
person on so many things.

I remember John Brunner. He was always so open in sharing about his Urinary challenges.
Hope he pops in here on this thread.

Beth two big babies, good size as you shared. I was 8 pounds and 6 ounces at birth.

Like you say though, seems like everything is due to aging these days.

You have a slight prolapsed bladder and I agree, could be the cause of your occassional uti.

I may get folks up to speed on my stuff. The office of the large practice I'm going to was small enough that I had the same nurse doing my cath swaps for the past 2 years...normally they randomly assign someone. My regular nurse left ( had her 2nd child) and the first time her replacement changed this thing, she damaged the path for this suprapubic tube. I was freaking out. Its created problems. There was a chance I'd have to get the operation again , and it would be a way different experience this time. That was 2 months ago. It seems to be healing. I told my doctor i'll be doing them all at home from this point forward. I've had issues in the past. I cannot take the risk.

Of course, now I'm struggling with finding supplies. Its always something.

It's not a serious issue for me yet, but I can see it coming. While I could once hold it for a couple of hours if I needed to, I now have to heed the urge shortly after the urge presents itself, although I can sleep through without having to get up during the night. However, when I am on walks in the woods, I bring some "Dude Wipes" just in case, although I don't generally have to use them. When I am walking around town, I might feel the urge to use the bathroom even though I am still 40 minutes from home. Since we don't have any restaurants that are generally open here anymore, that's a quandary. Given no solution that wouldn't place me at risk of arrest, I have to tough it out. Thus far, I have been able to do so, although once I called my wife to give me a ride home. I have never not made it home, in the sense of crapping my pants or breaking any common decency laws, but the biggest problems occur as I am walking in the house. So, near the bathroom, my body starts insisting it's made it and can now relax; however, I'm not in the bathroom yet and may still have garments to remove.

Glad it's not a serious issue for you yet. Thanks for sharing ...

Urgency issues that can arise, they are a pure annoyance, along with the timing.

I've been that way a good part of my adult life. I've usually been on a regular BM schedule, but when the urge hits, sometimes there's little warning. Regarding this forever cath, I've been given the option of having a procedure that might work, but this cath generally prevents the "gotta find a bathroom now" problem, and I sleep all night long. Absent inexperienced medical professionals, it should be good for the duration.

It's easy to get frustrated and blame aging, but I gotta remind myself of younger people I've known who have had Crohn's Disease, MS, and other stuff they will be living with for a very long time.

It still sucks, rhough.

Old folks with kidney, bladder, and other urinary tact maladies, that aren't just from age or wear and tear, may also be from the increase in medications. Whether it is meds for aches and pains, fungal, or bacteria, many of these meds take a toll on the kidneys, bladder, and urinary tract. So our already aging systems are hit with processing medications that many times are taken in dangerous combinations.

We are given choices that many times has us trying to decide the lesser of two unpleasant maladies. What battle do we want to fight? Being a non chooser is not an option. My recent one was risking eventually losing (once frost bitten) toes that can't fight off the fungus with topical treatment or taking a drug that may possibly damage my kidneys. While I take blood test to make sure kidney function isn't getting to bad, if I don't complete the entire 90 days of this drug, it may not have the lasting affect I want.

When the doctor explained that choice, I said, "Let me go out and consult with my husband." He said he thought I was single. I said I was but consulting with my husband means going out in the hall and flipping a quarter. Heads means yes and tails means no. :sneaky:

I agree Faye, good points in that our bladders not just from again wear and tear, but also may be from medications of all sorts
for all sorts of medical conditions etc.
