All things horses hopefully not AI

I followed the Imgur instructions. If this doesn’t post, I think it’s either my IPad, operator error,or both.

My second group of Keepers, all of whom have passed away by now and are laid to rest on this farm. Three Tennessee Walkers and one Arabian. All broke to death, go anywhere trail horses and I mean go anywhere; I was never one to ride groomed trails. The Arab was the best children’s horse ever; he loved babies & toddlers😇❤️

The owner or maybe a wild older horse?
It was a comment on another forum where someone said that horses are not as ideal or gentle a critter as they seem to be on TV. Maybe the guy has never been around any.

The only time I was on one is when my sister used to work at a jewelry store owned by folks who were in the "old money" show horse circuit. I went over one day and they put me on a horse that went onto Auto Pilot and started taking the jumps that were set up in the ring. My butt still hurts.

It looks fine to me, Connie. Let's see if it stays. The common problem folks make is to link the IMGUR webpage/URL rather than using the "Copy link..." function on the actual uploaded photo. The problem is not gonna with your iPad once the photo uploads to IMGUR. After that, it's making sure to copy/paste the right link between IMGUR and the forum.

Not sure anyone cares but one common misconception is that color determines a horses breed. This is confusing because a Paint is a separate breed and not a quarter horse like other colors. A Pinto can be any breed and is many times mistaken for a Paint because of similar coloring.

Also a Palomino is usually a quarter horse. as are Sorrels, Bays, Chestnuts, Duns, Roans, Buckskins, Dapple Grays, and others.

One could say he was riding a Quarter Horse and then a further identity would be, it was a Buckskin. It can get confusing with so many horse breeds and colors and patterns excepted within a breed. Quarter horses have the biggest color differences of any breed.

I care🤠🤠. I also care about getting the color hues correct, thanks to grandad 😇. After all these years I still get confused as to whether paint markings are tobiano or overdo🫣🫣

There have been a lot of lively discussions on the horse forum, regarding sorrels and chestnuts.

The horses in my Christmas card above are in the brown hues but each is something different.

The TWH at the top a sorrel. What makes him a sorrel instead of a chestnut is his flaxen mane and tail.

TWH In the middle a liver chestnut.

At the bottom a medium bay Arabian. Bay is very common in the Arabian world.

TWH to the right a solid red chestnut.

My current Dutch Warmblood is called a seal bay. He is two colors of medium/dark bay when the sun hits him just right.

If this posts, the horse in the back is my Dutch Warmblood last summer. The other horse is the bay Arabian on loan to me as a companion horse.

I gave up years ago trying to predict the color of foals.

These were my three (with their heads over the gate) in the early 1960’s; The pony is an escapee from a neighbor . The Palomino on the left is the dam. The other two are both hers to the same stallion, lollol.

The rule my Grandpa used was a tobaino has all four lower legs white. 🐴🤠

My Great Great Grandma Sorrelhorse is said
to have rode a dark reddish brown Quarter Horse,
thus the name Sorrelhorse or Redhorse.

No one ever called it a Chestnut and lived to brag about it. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

She ^^^ was very pretty. Look at those gorgeous cheekbones 🤠🤠. Do you have pictures of her with her horse?

Now that you say that, I’m pretty sure it was the Quarter Horse folks west of the Mississippi who took serious offense to those of us NE of the Mississippi calling a horse sorrel😂

In the end, we agreed to disagree because what we called the brown color variations was pretty much sealed in what we learned where we grew up.

No photo of any old horses. I wish I did. One cousin is said to have some but has yet to make copies or digitalize any of them. She was originally from the North Carolina Cherokee Nation. Out west most consider a red quarter horse (non roam coloring) with a light mane a Sorrel and dark mane a Chestnut.

My grandma and one brother (great uncle) told the story that sorrel was used in some Indian languages to mean red brown. They learned it from the French.
