July 2026: Cyclospora outbreak in 17 states, no recalls yet

For those who are being cautious, it seems that Taylor Farms brand bagged lettuce keeps coming up in conversations. They supply Taco Bell, as well as grocery stores. No formal recall or government statement has been issued.

    What's for supper?

Since I moved to a rural area, I drive 50 miles round trip every week to shop for produce rather than settle for that nasty bagged stuff. The bagged Spring Mix looks fresh, but once you get it wet it mats together like toilet paper. This is the Artisan lettuce I like: A variety pak of four...

    Fast Food Experiences

After years of rumors, there's a Waffle House (hereinafter referred to as "WH") opening near me next month. I may have been in a WH once decades ago, so will try it again and see how it is. NextDoor is all a-twitter over it. It's right off the interstate and across the street from IHOP, which...

    What's for supper?

I always use 2 types of lettuce that I process myself. The first one is a 4 pak of small Artisan lettuces grown in California and Texas. The second one I roll the country-of-origin dice with and get a head of romaine or red leaf. The cryptosporidia issue is almost always with bagged lettuce...

    What's for supper?

Chopped up some fried chicken, a spare rib and a hard boiled egg. Threw it on a big salad. Made honey mustard dressing. Heated up a biscuit. Then had a Dreamsicle.

How's the Weather Where You Are?

Here's a video from inside a train in Canada as it is forced to go through an active fire. These guys had to pull off to a side track and sit in the middle of a fire to let an oncoming train come through. It is Hell.

House Passes Bill to Make Daylight Savings Time Permanent

I started in Procurement in the pre-internet days of the 70s. Back then, a bunch of different time standards would have been confusing as I placed phone orders or got verbal quotes. These days with so much being done electronically I can't imagine it will impact commerce all that much. The...

Which of these chicken restaurant chains are your favorite?

It's weird that Wiki uses the two names interchangeably as you read that page. Church's used the name Texas Chicken when they first set up shop in non-Christian Asian countries, where the word "Church" would not have been good marketing. They use that name in all non-US restaurants. I found a...

    What's for supper?

When I was going to night classes, I got in the habit of cooking and freezing my meals for the coming week. It was out of necessity. For a variety of reasons, I kept the habit of batch-cooking and freezing portions in vacuum bags. I'll rarely make a single-serving meal unless it's a steak or...

How's the Weather Where You Are?

If the rain put a dent in the dryness, it's not showing in the government's drought map. This sucks.

Which of these chicken restaurant chains are your favorite?

I read that Church's originated out of Texas. It was founded in San Antonio as Church's Chicken, and somewhere along the line became Church's Texas Chicken. It's interesting than SNL (out of NYC) did a skit on it back in the 70s. I had never heard of it and would never have thought of it...

Thanks for that. I forgot about the GPS functionality. The watch has a built-in GPS receiver. I believe you need to have Location Services enabled.

Which of these chicken restaurant chains are your favorite?

Church's is an old school name...been around since the 50s. I recall an old Saturday Night Live skit spoofing them. We have 4 in Virginia, clustered in the southeast part of the state near the Atlantic. There's over 300 of them in Texas! I've never seen one, much less eaten there.

    Posterior Capsule Opacification (PCO)

I'm the same as you, Connie. I'll give folks help, rides, etc but don't like being on the receiving end...although I've been forced to get lifts a few times. My cataracts are bothering me but my eye doctor says "Not bad enough for surgery yet." One of them has started to form in the center of...

    Shopping--What did you buy?

My place was remodeled by an investor before I bought it. I had my share of flats when I first moved here. I didn't think of sweeping the driveway. I think my tires got them all. I got the Harbor Freight one out today and pulled it around but found nothing. Anything I dropped out there is...

    Random Political Discussion

Trump overrode that order and told ICE to get back to work. We don't do mob rule. And you never hear anyone talk about actually changing the law...just engage in selective enforcement, or no enforcement at all.

    What's for supper?

I made sandwich from the Bojangles chicken for lunch, so dinner will be a salad and something light (probably cheese & crackers.) Or maybe I'll make SOS.

House Passes Bill to Make Daylight Savings Time Permanent

Do you know how a watch might change if it's not tethered to a phone? Enabling the e-SIM is an option. And I don't believe they do satellite.
