Our very frighting car accident today

His Apple Watch shows heart beats,, so if you look at the readout for that day on his iPhone , it should show no heartbeats for a short period if his heart did stop and then restart from the jolt of hitting the concrete.
If he just passed out, then the heartbeat would remain steady the whole time.
What heart medication are they giving him that they said could cause the blackouts, Kate ?
Blood thinners @Yvonne Smith I've asked Doctors and the chemist both said they can cause blackouts regardless of brand

Oh, @Kate Ellery , that is terrible; but I am so glad that both you and your husband were not injured in the accident , and also that the other people involved are okay, too.
I hope that they are able to see why he blacked out. Some of the medication they gave me for a-fib makes me really dizzy, but I know not to do anything like driving or that might be dangerous after I take it until I stop being so dizzy. Maybe the dancing just made his heart work harder and so it affected him more.

Sending prayers and hugs for you as you work out what happened and how to get home. It is good that you have the full coverage insurance, so you should be able to get a vehicle to get back home again.
Keep us posted on how things are going, please, Kate !
I arrived at the hospital to visit hubs about 10 am ,and shortly after the senior cardiologist , came in the room so I was able to ask some questions .

He’s looked at hubs dozens of blood tests , cat scan just incase he had something like a brain bleed ,
all seems reasonable , however after reviewing tests and what hubs has told them , the senior Cardiologist believes his blood pressure dropped to low and his heart stoped briefly causing the crash , so tomorrow he’s being fitted with a pacemaker providing they have room to fit him in
if not it will be done Tuesday , you have a P.M I think @Yvonne Smith …something I’ll be keen to learn more about to keep my dear hubby well

I have never heard that, @Kate Ellery . I take Eliquis now, but have taken several other brands in the past years, and have never heard that they could cause a blackout. Can you tell me what brand your husband is taking ? It might be something different than we have here in the states.

I have had a pacemaker for about 8 years, and it definitely will help stop his heart rate from going too low, but does not help with afib episodes at all. They ended up doing an AV node block on my heart and a permanent pacemaker that totally controls my heart rate, so it can speed up if I am exercising, and otherwise, it stays at 80 bpm.
I do have to be careful with anything that might be magnetic. Bobby got an induction plate for cooking, and since it uses magnetism to heat the pans, I can’t even be in the kitchen if he is using it. So, you will need to find out what is and isnt safe for your husband once he has the pacemaker.

Ask your chemist , I phoned the one where we get our meds and he was quite upfront and honest and said it’s not only what he’s taking now, it applies to all blood thinners
Hubs was taking Eliqus but he was getting really bad nose bleeds , @Yvonne Smith and the cardiologist who gave him the BT said the one he’s on now is less likely to cause nose bleeds
Hubs BP a few days ago was 75/ 50 ..way to low no wonder he was dizzy

Sorry I really don’t know the name of the new blood thinner he’s on ,he’s only had it 2 weeks , I get the scripts from the chemist but I’ve not actually seen the pack to know the name of them ,I just had hubs his pack of pills and he puts them away @Yvonne Smith
I’m going to get a hire car this morning and go home ,( I’ve got it booked ) I’m taking a heap of stuff home that was in the car like the little camp fridge , tools hubs being a former tradesman ( diesel mechanic ) always carries tools in the car incase of any breakdowns ..some of the tools he’s had since he was 15 He’s now 79 lots of stuff as well as clothing ect we had here ( where I’m still staying) she won’t hear of me getting other accommodation and she hardly knows us

Do you know how much longer your husband will be in the hospital, @Kate Ellery? I know you said it would be until after he gets the pacemaker, which might not happen until early next week.
It sounds like you will be doing the driving from now on, if his medication can cause that much of a problem, even if the pacemaker can stop the low heartbeat that caused the accident.

The head cardiologist said yesterday he won’t be able to drive for a while , not because of pacemaker, due the the accident

Think he will have to prove himself to me , he’s ok before I’d even think about getting in another car with him , I’m still nervous like my insides are all, jumpy …. I’m good however …I’ve not driven for a long time , he’s mostly always taken over that job .

He will be in the hospital till he’s either settled health wise , his B P is still all over the place ,he had one of those funny thick heads come over him all of a sudden while I was there yesterday , of course the nurse came rushing in and laid the back of his bed down then started asking questions of course .

It’s a good heath check up for him that’s been needed for a long time with his ongoing A F and the extremely low BP

Actually the younger cardiologist asked hubs for his phone to check the heart beats after he had that bit of a funny turn yesterday
@Yvonne Smith

I'm sorry to hear about the accident you two were in. Glad the outcome was just the totaling of the vehicle and an inpatient stay.
The emergency services took hubs to the hospital, cause he really didn’t even know he’d had an accident ..let alone one where he drove on the correct side to the other side of the road where cars were traveling in opposite direction ….( on a major road in a very high industrial/ high traffic area on Adelaide city )
Think the hospital has pretty much ruled out a stroke ….and more concerned about the low BP and the A fib

He got out of the car and just stood there …looking lost / didn’t understand what was happening …..scary …i said Dear …..(what I call him most of the time) and he looked at me as if I was a complete stranger ….instead of his wife if 40 years , he didn’t move , until the police said go over there to the footpath

It is my opinion that Apple Watches (or a similar one) is a great thing for any person, and especially we seniors, to have , to help monitor our heart and our health. They have been a lifesaver for many people. Most of the information that our doctor needs to see is monitored on the Apple Watch and stored on our phones, where we can show it to the doctor.

Kate, I'm so sorry to see this. Happy that nobody was seriously injured. Is there an update?
I am getting concerned, we have not heard from Kate since Saturday. She was going to try and find a way to get home, but I think that her husband was still in the hospital and going to have a pacemaker procedure. Unless she rents a car, I am not sure how she is getting back and forth, and she said it was at least a 2 hour drive, if I was understanding everything correctly.
I am hoping that everything is okay and that Kate is just busy dealing with everything.

I’m surviving …just …been teary / sad …I’m ok ….its built up stuff ..hubs being very unwell
Yep I rented a car ..a Nissan xrail to take all the stuff home ….slept home overnite .well 1.5 hours sleep ….and drive back 2 hours in the rain
I’m ok I’ll perk up once we are settled in our own home @Yvonne Smith
Kate you can do it. Very simply because there are no other options. Are you eating? Are you drinking? Can friends and family help you?

Thank you to everyone , 🫂

This shook me in more ways than one , no I’ve hardly eaten at all , feeling more settled now I’m home ( hubs altho wonky on his feet due to the surgery / implant of the pacemaker ) as well as we are used to being active ….he was laying in a bed for 6 days attached to this and that under the watchful eye of all the nurses who came and went from the desk ..he was in a glass fronted room right opposite the desk the whole time

I don’t think hubs realised just how badly he seemed to be going downhill , heath wise ….i used to say drink some water ….and he’d simply refuse , now several doctors have told him to drink at least 1. Ltr a day ….
