What Are You Doing Today?

We slummed on the patio last night. It felt so good:)
Mumsy has me worried. BIL gives her a $100 monthly allowance because her ALF is expensive. He put her there. I know what she had saved a year ago and what she has coming in. No hair cut or pedi since she was sent here December 2025. He used his miles, charged her a full price ticket and did not include a suitcase.
Physical therapy is starting to make a difference.
Need to put Velcro on the chair in the closet to hold SO long enough to go through some clothes.

It's too early to ask, but I probably won't be doing much. I just got up, it's raining, and I've already decided that I don't feel like doing much. Today will probably be much like yesterday, with the addition of rain. I got to bed just before the sun came up, awoke after noon. At some point, I will have to get my exercise in, and I prefer to do that by walking somewhere, so, rain or not, that's probably what I'll do. The rain is supposed to stop in half an hour or so, so perhaps I'll go later in the afternoon, or maybe after dark, since I absolutely love walking on a woods path at night. These are wilderness walks, by the way; just small wooded areas in or around town.

I had my semi-annual Wellness Check this morning. Then I gave a friend a ride to her eye doctor in preparation for cataract surgery (half hour drive to her place, 45 minutes to the doctor.) We got there at 1:45PM for her 2PM appointment, and left at 4:30PM. This doctor loads patients into exam rooms and gets to them when he gets to them ("Sorry for the wait.") I've been through this before taking her and another friend to this practice...both women in their 80s sitting in an exam room waiting for 2 hours. The only magazines he has for people to read are back issues of a wine magazine. Ask me anything...I've become a surly sommelier.

She bought me lunch/dinner at the Chinese buffet across the street. Then I drove her home, picked up the fresh eggs she got for me, then drove myself home. Made for a long darned day.

My lady friend was supposed to be released from the Hospital to go to a rehab hospital for a week to 10 days before going back to her assisted living facility. But she was being difficult and may or may not have actually been moved. Sadly this is now normal for her. At some point, I'm just in the way, so I leave. I'll find out this morning what transpired.

The good news is that I did have another showing on my house yesterday. The bad news is they didn't bring their checkbook...

eta - I called the rehab place this morning, and yes she was transferred late yesterday evening. I'll visit her later today.

We were up around 4am, although not needed until 5 am..going to his dentist today. Both have been way too sleepy. Came back made breakfast, fell asleep woke up at noon. Of all the crazy things.. ate ice cream and some of my banana cake.. I never do!
Oh well me innards are most happy:p
Luckily dentist is not going to pull all his teeth on bottom so that saves us almost $900..yea!
The process starts 8/25- in sections at a time.
Not sure about rest of the day.

I cut up the pear tree that got knocked over by and over zealous deer. Must have had itchy antlers. Did some chores at the farm. Got instructions on what was different about a refurbished Husqvarna tractor so I could start on the overgrown lawn at the farm today. I told everyone not to mow during the drought and the chickory and other weeds in the lawn are quite tall and woody. Looks like the place has been abandoned except for the pastures. the sheep and the hay guy have been doing a good job. The alfalfa looks great.

Had our final appointment with the lawyer who has prepared all of our "end of life" documents and updated our wills. So now we have wills, codicils, medical directives, medical powers of attorney, financial powers of attorney, and HIPAA authorizations for our children. Feels good to have all those updated and finalized.

We saw a Cracker Barrel on our way home so we pulled in and had a huge breakfast though it was a little after noon. We are both stuffed, plus I brought home 2 biscuits and a large piece of country ham in case we want anything later.

Our waitress was very sweet and appeared to be about our age. She looked tired and I couldn't help but think how hard it must be. Retirement may soon be a luxury that not many get to have.

Is Cracker Barrel still updated or have they gone back to the old decor?

That CEO stepped down. Her Golden Parachute was $4.6 Million. The chain halted the upgrades shortly after they started making them. It's a tough spot. They want to attract a younger crowd for their future because their core customer base is aging out...but their core customer base does not want change.

Thank you folks. I try to keep this under but sometimes it just bubbles over. SO sent her a big pack of colored gel pens for her cross word puzzles this evening. So she has stuff coming from family.

She undersold herself. I really do not remember the last time I was in a Cracker Barrel. Do you?

If I remember right, Cracker Barrel got this CEO from Taco Bell, or one of the other fast food places that has been turned into a basic generic building , instead of one that we all recognized from a block or so away, like we used to be able to do. Now, most of them all look the same and have lost their colorfulness.
Cracker Barrel is one of the few distinctive ones left, and it would not have been, if that CEO had gotten her way and took out everything that makes it a Cracker Barrel.

I like Cracker Barrel, but it is always full, and becasue it is full of people eating and talking, it is noisy. We have an IHOP just across the parkway, and it does not have anywhere near the customers as Cracker Barrel, so we always go there if we go out to eat anywhere.

The last time we went to the nearest CB it had just been sold and it was a bit before the CEO bruhaha. I didn't know if it was the new owners or what but several of our favorites were no longer on the menu and the gift shop had items that seemed to be from Temu. We were never going back if the interior was changed. Might give it a try again.
I definitely don't like Taco Bell food anymore.
