Wife is in Emergency!

The New Year is starting with a bang.

We called emergency for my Wife her blood pressure was over 200 and her heart rate was 144. She forgot to take her heart meds this morning. She took them, but they didn't help.
I am with her, right now in emergency, she looks good. It's after 12:05am it's January 2, my wife ask me do you know what today is? With all the excitement I forgot it's our Anniversary. We were married 61 years ago.
I said we could celebrate by comparing medical records.

I am glad it got resolved @Tony Page. Happy New Year!
DON
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Just got home from ER
All is good.
That's great news! Hopefully she won't forget her medications again. I hope her labs are good so y'all can go home. Be careful on the drive home.
Beth,
Thank you, I have to find a way that reminds her to take meds. She doesn't always hear the alarm on the cellphone. We got home a little after 3am. It was snowing when we got out, made for a interesting drive home with no heat in the car. I have to get a car soon.

I am late to finding this, and am glad that your wife is back home and doing okay again. Do the doctors know why her BP and heart rate skyrocketed like that ? Was it just missing one dose of medication, or some other thing caused it ?
I guess you are starting out the new year in fast mode, but hopefully, everything will be okay now .

My iPad can give me alerts, and probably the phone, too. I don’t ever use that function, so I don’t know anything about it; but maybe you can set your wife’s alerts so that they pop up onscreen and not just make a noise that she doesn’t hear ?
And, for sure, Happy Anniversary, too ! !

Yvonne,

Thank you,
It was because she didn't take her pill that she had this problem.
She had checked her blood pressure earlier in the day and it was perfect. Later that night she checked it again because she was feeling a little "wobbly." It was 220 /? Her pulse was 144. She looked pale. I gave her a pill to take. I called my daughter who lives with us after about 15 minutes later to see what she thought. Her BP was going in the wrong direction at that point. When my daughter saw her she call 911 immediately. When the tech got there they took her to the ER without hesitation. They checked her vitals in the ambulance.
The nurse told me, her BP when she was checked in, was 180/?. The pill was starting to work. When I got to the ER they checked it again it was 151/67. She was feeling better, and I notice she had much improved coloration. By the time we got out of there, her BP was 127/?.
The nurse said giving her the pill was the right thing to do.

Tony--I take my BP meds when I get up in the morning, so my pillbox is next to my toothbrush. My husband's pillbox is next to the coffee pot. I think having a routine is the best method for remembering to take pills.

You might consider getting your wife an apple watch (or similar) since it can be scheduled to vibrate/chime daily reminders. There is a medication reminder in the Health app.

Or if you take daily meds, just remind her as you take yours. I hope she is doing well today.

I have a pill box that holds meds for each day, and I have it right on my desk next to where i have my coffee cup, so it is where i see it all the time. If I can’t remember whether I took my meds, I can just look at the box and see if i took them or not.
I agree that having them somewhere that you notice them is a good way to remember.

Thank you for you suggestions.
I am going to set an alarm on my cell as a reminder for her to take her meds.

Her problem is her hearing is really bad. She does have her meds in a pill box, but she keeps it in a dresser draw. I leave my pills out and take them when I settle in to watch tv, so that theirs an alarm and a visual reminder, right next to my chair.

Every Saturday morning while having coffee.. I refill the med box for us both.
Of morning I take mine and put in small glass, his in shot glass.
At 9 pm my phone goes off and we take our 1 nightly pill.
I have everything at what I call the 'drink station ' next to fridge in kitchen.

@Tony Page if hearing is the real problem and she wears hearing aids, see if you can connect the phone to the hearing aids via Bluetooth. It also makes calls easier to hear. Any BP over 200 is in the danger-of-stroke area, so be real careful if she slips into that so easily and quickly.
