What Are You Doing Today?

It's astonishing to me how fast professional roofers are. They usually do a good-size house in a single day around here. (Mostly asphalt-type shingle roofs.).
It seems they are even faster with a metal roof. Which is what I am considering, But then again, I'll never out live another shingle roof so ??? ..... this house is 26yrs old .... is it due? I really do not want to wait for a leak.

Mowed some grass and set up solar panels, supposed to be sunny until the next round of storms later on tonight.

Still cleaning up limbs and branches from the last round the other night. Lots of sticks, big hunks of bark, and cottonwood limbs in the 5" diameter range and down. Plenty to say up and break up to let dry out in the Sun. I guess th old firepit does still have some use ahead. I do still have a barrel mostly full yet of sticks and branches from last year. I need to get that aired out and then burned first. It's dry, but it still smells like moss and mildew from being closed up over Winter. Maybe I'll leave it closed up in full Sun and let the heat sterilize some of that away. I've noticed that if I let the car sit closed up it can get well above 110 degrees in there.

If your house has the original roof and it's shingles, then you are probably due. Most roofing companies will do a free inspection and offer a bid.

5-6 years ago I built a series of firewood racks.

The roofs are made from 16'x12' tarps that I cut down and installed grommets in...I got 2 roofs plus surplus smaller tarps from each one. They've held up remarkably well in the sun and under the occasional ice & snow. These tarps are not a solid sheet of plastic but seem to be tightly woven strands of plastic which start to unravel/fray in spots. I did some patching today to stop further fraying, clipping off the frayed ends, cleaning the area with alcohol, then applying patches of Gorilla tape. I've done it a couple of other times and the Gorilla tape has also held up well.

I have no idea what inspired me to do this. I was on the couch watching TV while on my laptop when for some reason I got the idea that I should get this done...and I actually acted on it.

Damn, Son. That's quite a drop. Back in the early days of A1C testing I think I bumped up against 7, and have been under 6 ever since then. I've been "pre-diabetic" for a while. I tell my doctor that I'm also pre-dead, and it is what it is.
Yeah. I actually was shocked myself at the time. Doc said it was better than his, and he's a young intern only graduating this month. I looked it up again today because I was on their "portal" site to request medication refills. But I actually got the nod on this from his crusty supervising Doc.

I'm on 3 meds related to this, I'm trying to ramp up my activity, and I'm trying to be serious about what I consume.

I'm trying to stay on course now and not risk breaking my progress. In the last year I have dropped a good 60 pounds or more. I'd like to drop another 25 or 30 but right now things are holding steady. I hope some of that is from putting on a little more muscle mass. I've been cautious on this Mounjaro stuff because of so much bad press. I'd anticipated everything from bulging eyes to floppy neck wattles So far, nothing of that sort. Biggest problem is droopy drawers, so maybe I need more butt?

It's not all wine and roses, sometimes I get tired and have to push myself. I note that especially near the end of my "solar power day" when shading means I may as well pack it all in. I sometimes dread heading out to coil up cables and move all of the heavy stuff back inside for the night. Add mowing days on top of that (push only, no self-propelled or circus wagons here)... wel I push myself. But I try to break it up into small stints.

It's not easy when our survival does not require activity. My "best time" was when I lived outside of DC and commuted to work on my bicycle. It was 12 miles each way, and took the same amount of time as driving did. So I got 45 minutes of cardio in the AM and in the PM without it costing me any time from my schedule.
