Shipwrecked Garfield phones (03/30/19) "The remains of almost 200 Garfield phones have been appearing on beaches in this northwest region of France, confounding Bretons who for the past thirty-five years have come upon the remains of Garfield’s paws, tail, his headset back, his head often decapitated and smiling, his retractable eyelids usually open, and his eyes often morbidly gorged out. " "The mystery of why these dismembered plastic felines were turning the beach into their own personal graveyard was solved this week after journalist from FranceInfo brought attention to the mess in their campaign #AlertePollution in mid Februrary, after learning about the debris from an environmental group. The group Ar Viltansoù had been leading volunteer efforts for years to clean the beaches, as well as finding the source for the plethora of phones washing ashore.
