Well, spring is here....... RIGHT !!!! Still in full winter up here... We still have around -18c at night and way below freezing (0c) during the day.. How is it where you are. ????
The sun was out yesterday...very blue skies, but as the snow just melted the other day we're not seeing too much evidence of spring yet...mild today around 9 degrees..
It snowed here yesterday. It was snowing at midnight but today has been nice. Chilly but nice. My martins are back so spring is here.
Temperatures are supposed to warm up during the day and remain cold at night for the next week or so.. That will get the sap flowing like crazy to make maple syrup.. It should be a fantastic year for the syrup.. We up here produce almost 25% of the maple syrup in the world....... There are many sugar shacks and maple syrup places.. We love our syrup ....
About 10 years ago I couldn't get any real decent Maple syrup here for love nor money and a friend of mine who lives in Kelowna BC, sent me a bottle of Canadian maple syrup...it was delicious. Fortunately we can buy it here now.. but it was very welcome at the time
Today and for the next week or so, the nighttime temperatures will be way below freezing while the daytime temperatures will be above freezing. .. That means the sap from the maple trees will be flowing like a garden hose at full force.. It will be one of the most bumper crops of maple syrup the producers have seen in many years.. Syrup is quite cheap up here when you go to the sugar shack to get it.. At the same time, it is quite an enjoyable experience with quite the meal they put on.... Hot sap on the snow is a real treat.. It becomes taffy...
Temperatures here were high this weekend, sunny and about 12 degrees C. The forecast for the next week does not look good. They announced cold weather and strong wind for the next days. I actually saw signs of spring, like trees blooming and birds migrating but it is all going to go away as soon as the cold kicks in
@Louise Williams sent me some real maple syrup when she lived in Maine. It was sooooo good. Maybe she can move back to Maine and send me some more? Hi, Aniri! Steve, how are your snow flowers doing?
My snow flowers are doing just lousy.. We haven't had much snow this winter but we had a rather long cold spell in December and January which made them multiply like crazy, however they are not tall at all.. As the snow melts, they slowly disappear with the depth of the snow remaining.. They were quite colourful though ...
We had 2 days of Sun..now it's raining again. We did manage to get all the lawns cut yesterday.first cut of Spring, so I'm pleased about that... but rain and possible snow is forecast here for Easter weekend. Quite mild tho' at 53 deg F ( 12 deg C )
Snowing here right now and we need the snow very badly.. Hope we get a good amount but they are forecasting only 10 to 15 cms.. We need much more....
Snow storm is all over and we got shafted badly.. We barely got 2 cms of snow and it was so mild that it all melted, so we are still without enough snow for the season.. We need more snow but it doesn't look like we will be getting any soon.. The last thing we need is rain.. Absolutely NO rain !!! Totally unacceptable at this time.. That would be a big disaster......
Awwww, Steve. I hope y'all get lots of snow. I cleaned out my martin gourds a few days ago. Some of them were in bad shape and I had to get rid of them. I bought some more now I have to get them ready to hang. They need to go from this: to this: I'll be busy tomorrow doing that. Then I need to get packed for our trip to Pigeon Forge. We leave Saturday and will be back Wednesday. So when I sign out tonight, I probably won't be back online until next Thursday..... Maybe Friday.
wow...they are lovely...when they're all cleaned up.. Have a safe trip Shirley . where's pigeon forge..is it a vacation you're going on...?
