Dear Lord....if they only knew what kind of world they were fighting for.....what courage . what fortitude...and every one a braver man than the one before..
Was wondering what my Dad was doing in the Pacific at that time. He would have been 19, having joined the Marines at 17 in 1942. His unit ( 1st Marine Division ) was island hopping. Still trying to wrap my mind around what his thoughts were as a 17 year old going to War and continuing on for a total of 34 years in the military.
First the chills up my back and down my arms came. And then my heart felt a deep sadness overcome me as I was watching this incredible video unfold. Now my face is streaked with the tears that silently began to stream down my face as I continued to watch and with each event that took place as that young man stood afixed in the stand more tears followed. Deeper and deeper was I so moved by his perserverance to stand firm through his experience. Thank you @Gary Ridenour for sharing such a remarkable video that speaks to us all.
Since I don't have anyone that was or is in the military I imagine my son or grandson at that young age and I don't even want my thoughts going there. All our service men were very brave...some made it home but others did not...the ultimate sacrifice for our country and the way things are going I hope it wasn't in vain. My 18 year old grandson who just graduated is very conservative and talks about joining. His mother and I hope he doesn't. You should see some of his twitter tweets, he's not afraid to speak his mind in a mostly liberal school! He's paid the price for supporting Trump. He voiced his opinion which went against the anti Trump agenda in a class. He had more than a 4.0 average in all his years, more community service than needed, lot of AP classes and yet because of 2 teachers who gave him a negative reference he didn't make National Honor society, while others who had less GPAs made it. His parents went in to complain but to no avail. The liberal teacher wasn't budging, she said he disrupted the class. Lol, he probably did but it's still not fair.
1st Marine Division fought on Guadalcanal, Eastern New Guinea, New Britain, Peleliu.and Okinawa. the movie THE PACIFIC was about the 1st mrdiv my dad joined the Navy the day after Pearl Harbor. he was 17 to. had to get permission from his dad to go. that started a family feud
seems college today is about riots and politics instead of education. tell his to join the Navy. sounds like he'd make a fine officer. IMO
He's going to be going to Cal Poly in September. Funny you should say Navy because that's what he's mentioned.
