Don't be mistaken, this thread belongs to this board... as a hobby. There is a new trend here in the suburbs. Real estate is being sold as an orchard with a standard size of 1 hectare. The blurb says that orchards don't need much of your attention and you can spend time during weekends, so just like a hobby.

Most of the orchards have fruiting trees already and some are being designed depending on the taste of the buyer - what kind of fruit trees or if you prefer vegetables. The seller also assists in the needed structure like a hut or a small house. And if a caretaker is needed, they also provide for a minimal fee.

How about it? One friend had bought an orchard some 4 towns away from our place. We would like to follow suit but unfortunately we have no budget for that (they only accept cash in full payment). It would be wonderful to have an orchard like that... as a hobby for a weekend retreat.

It sounds more like a hobby business. Learn from your friend's investment.

How interesting. my brother-in-law had 10 acres of dwarf apple trees, (about 3,000). There were different varieties, of the most common names. When they bore fruit it was the same size fruit as the regular apples. There wasn't a need for a ladder, just stand and pick:)
