What are your favorite childrens or young adult books would you read as an adult? Which ones would you refer? I like all the books in the Chronicals Of Narnia, The series of books and stories by Madelaine D'Engle i.e. A Wrinke In Time, A Swiftly Tilting Plante, A Wind in the Door and others. Anotehr good series of books would also be just about any from the Newberry Awards. Just because they are written for children, they all have something new for adults. You can get the list of all the books from the 1920'a to present here: Newberry Medal and Honor Books
Yeah, I have forgotten many of them that I read when my girls were teens and still have the Narnia books and also many of the D'Engle books. Goosebumps was another series.
This is my favorite children's story. It has everything, greed, envy, adultery, murder, deception. Everyone should read this. http://www.worldoftales.com/fairy_tales/Hans_Christian_Andersen/Andersen_fairy_tale_49.html
I'd like to read the Little House books again. I never read them for myself, but read them all with my daughter and loved them. I loved Nancy Drew books, too, and have read them a few times. If you liked Nancy Drew, check out the Penny Parker series on Kindle... they're even better, and by the same author as the first bunch of Nancy Drew (Mildred Wirt Benson.) And they're free. There are 17 of them and my inner child had a fantastic time reading them all one after another last year.
I liked all the Narnia Tales, but the first one was the best. I liked the first two Harry Potter books, the Hunger game series, these books are from my grandsons reading lists. There was another series but I can't remember the name, also dystopian. I read a few of the Diaries of a Wimpy kid. My grandsons like all of Percy Jackson's books. When I was young I read Little women also, in my teen years I loved all the Beverly Cleary books like fifteen, Seventeen and anything else she wrote. There was one book at the library called "Young Love" I think and it was a little on the PG13 side and after my mom read it said I couldn't read it, I had already finished it so I said okay...but that was the HOT book then.
Chrissy, have you read "Fifty Shades of Gray"? When I worked at the library, I was amazed that mothers of teenager girls were letting their daughters read it. Times have surely changed since "Lady Chatterley's Lover" was banned from library's.
That's an amazing website @Sheldon Scott , wow, tales from all over the world. I admit I didn't read anything yet, but I would like to. Thanks for the site
I guess mine would be Beauty and the Beast. I mean that is the one I can remember best from my childhood. I loved the whole concept of "looks" not being important, I mean Hollywood beauty. I still admit to loving it when the prince got to become handsome, hollywood dude again, but I almost expect her to want the beastly look back, I think I would in all honesty. But then I have to remember, beauty is truly an "inside job".
Wow @Sheldon Scott , I read the first one, that was something to read I hadn't read, or seen anything by HCA for years, thank you much!! Denise
That is one book that I've saved through the years for some reason. It was inspirational to a twelve year old, who didn't like to read that much. I have a fairly good copy with the jacket. ... 643 pages.
