I was introduced to the book - A Course in Miracles - years ago when I was exploring quite a few New Age topics. Recently I picked it up again and have a different view. I would love to hear pros and cons from anyone who has an opinion or experience with the course..Thanks
My mother lived to be 94 and explored different religions and spirituality her whole life. What I know of it was from casual perusal of some of the literature she had around. My impression is that it promises an awful lot that maybe it can't deliver.
Dated a gal who was wayyyy into A Course In Miracles. I found it to be a bunch of silliness, but that was just for me, personally. As John Lennon sang: Whatever gets you through your life, It's all right, it's all right. Do it wrong, or do it right, It's all right, it's all right........
There is a video on you tube showing in China a hospital which is drug free There was a woman who had cancer it showed the cancer with ultra sound. They had is split screen on show before and one in real time. They had doctors chanting and you could see the cancer disappear as you watched it in three minutes there was no cancer. It makes you wonder what is possible.
Not necessarily...as I understand there are many teachers of ACIM and the one you quoted is only one, though a large one. It is a church and their ministry is oriented around teaching/ interpreting ACIM I read/listen to what they say but also refer to other 'teachers'
Oh I would have liked your mother..I started my 'search' in college with a course in comparative religions and spent years looking at different religions ,philosophies went into New Age ideas etc... Not sure what you mean by what ACIM 'promises' but I do know we all have our interpretations...…
Just from the site Ken referenced: Would you like to feel peaceful even in difficult circumstances? Would you like all of your relationships to be loving? Would you like to feel more connected to your Source? Promises are implied here rather than openly made, but maybe.you can see my point, Joan. But, but, but.... I'm certainly not an expert on ACIM or any other spiritual movement.
For me and to me that sounds kind of like a cheesy sales pitch ...but that is not respectful and I am editing my initial response...no doubt some will find comfort and hope in the words and I am all for that. I am not an expert either but different spiritual teachings fascinate me...
Sorry, I don't get into discussions about the specific positive or negative aspects of this or that religious ideology.........
Not a problem Trevalius....I need to be careful when discussing religion .I am just fascinated by everyone's ideas/beliefs...
I totally understand where you're coming from, but... ."the specific positive or negative aspects of this or that religious ideology." are a reflection of our own positive or negative aspects, whether we're religious or not. Religious aspects are an outgrowth of human aspects. They. HAVE to be. Where else would they come from, except possibly from God, and we profess to not believe, right? You see the dilemma, I hope. Religious beliefs of others aren't something we can set aside and never consider because they come from people who are mostly just like us. I'm not trying to tell you you have to discuss this or that if you don't want to - just throwing in my opinion on the subject..
I agree with you. However, my unwillingness to discuss religion is simply a personal choice, and I hold to it....... religiously!
