@Ken Anderson - just curious as to why a thread about being mean versus just sending private message to those who are the culprits asking them to knock it off?
It can't be a large number of folks.
It does appear the sensitivity level has increased lately.

Time to make a pact. No "I'm right and you're wrong" posts. Just share viewpoints.

Strong arguments are fine. As long as you stick to the issues rather than making your argument about the person who you disagree with, everything is fine.

There are varying levels of uncivility, and I was hoping to reach all of them. I think I've banned more people in the last week than I have in the last four years, but I'm working on a change in that policy.

Is there a way to tell if someone was banned? That would help with the "where is so-and-so" questions, and alleviate worry about someone being ill or worse.

I have a pretty good idea of what's going on but I'd rather not discuss that.

Their profile name will have a line through it in threads where they have posted. As I mentioned, I am looking at an alternative to banning people because I don't like doing that. Except for spammers, it's not that they are no longer wanted in the forum. Many of them have been contributing members of the forum before, and after. They may have simply gotten angry about something or, for whatever reason, violated the few rules that we have here. So, until I work that out, I have been doing only week-long bans. All I really want to do is calm things down.

I personally, will not tolerate false information as fact. Nor will I tolerate someone attacking my character. It definitely brings out the worst in me and my temper. I am so sorry, I responded to the latest thread I believe you are referring to, Ken. The entire discussion, if one could call it that, was uncalled for. From here on out, I will not be here as often and very selective as to whom I shall even consider addressing. There is a distinct difference between being principled and simply contrary. I see it quite often in this forum in one form or another. You are correct in stating that meanness is sometimes cloaked as a joke, but that falls flat time and again. If good humor is not sincere, then the humor is not good at all. There have been several attempts to create a vicious controversy here, but I try to avoid those at all costs and most of us should. There is enough stress in this world just trying to get through each day as it is.

@Lois Winters I totally understand your view, Lois, everyone's opinion is of value, as long as it doesn't cross the line, and i think we're all old and wise enough that we should know the difference. Enjoy seeing you always, along with all the members.

I've not seen that thread to which you refer..I don't think, Lois but I agree about the meanness being used under the ''Joke umbrella''... I could name at least 2 people on here who are guilty of that very thing , but hide under that other umbrella named ''sycophancy'' towards admin so it goes unchecked or unnoticed... ... *ugh* o_O
