The jazz stations I listen to play their share of Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan and Ethel Waters, but I have not heard Bessie Smith played once. Maybe that's reaching back a little too far for them.
Satchmo and his All Stars Newport, with trummy young, Edmund Hall, Billy Kyle just the best.
Put me in, Coach....
Centerfield - John Fogerty, 1984
Since it was 78 degrees yesterday afternoon, as we were coming home from a Walmart parking lot grocery pickup, we had the front car windows down. Had Bob Segar's "Old Time Rock and Roll" song playing pretty loud on our CD. Not blasting, but loud. The vehicle next to us, at a stop light, was two, what appeared to be, upper 70's age men in it. The driver heard our music and was singing along. My wife looked over and got a real kick out of seeing him singing. She said, "I know he singing this Bob Segar's song, we have playing, by the way his mouth is moving."
A lot of people have done this song, but I prefer the rendition by Joan Baez to the others.
Both those guys are great entertainers
They ought to find there own songs though!
Reminds me of John Fogerty getting so screwed by the industry when he was in CCR that even after he got out from under that heinous contract and was able to keep the money from his new solo stuff, he got sued by the guy who held the copyright on his CCR songs because one of John's new songs sounded too much like one of John's old songs!!!
