What Are You Doing Today?

I was up early before sunrise, so I took a jaunt to the bank to pull some cash from the ATM. I don't spend a lot of cash, but I'm keeping an on-hand reserve for just-in-case and refilling my wallet as I go.

They keep changing the ATMs on me. This time I got weird options for bill denominations. Used to be they only spat out twenties.

Not greedy or in a hurry to build that reserve, I withdrew $300 and I guess I ended up choosing "mixed bills." Ended up with five 1s, three 3s, four 20s, and four 50s.

Who the hell uses 50s??? What am I? A millionaire?

Um, yeah. So you can tell that I don't spend cash much these days. And I sure as hell don't spend it in those fat-bottom restaurants where 2 people end up costing near $200 for some tough, super-salty steaks and some dry potatoes.

I'm just glad it didn't cough up three 100s and leave me with that I guess.
 
I got all the outside watering done and now it's looking like it's going to rain. :sneaky: Planted a couple of annuals in the flower bed that I had been ignoring for too long. Did some cleaning and re-arranging of storage stuff and thinking of a run to dump stuff at Goodwill.

I have a nagging headache behind my eyes so all I want to do is lie down with something cold on my forehead.
 
Went to a couple plumbing supply places to find a filter for daughter's water softener. Then to Fleet Farm to grab some chicken feed. I got some last minute seeds and I went down a few snack aisles. I found that we don't have to worry about people eating too much crap any more. The prices on candy and even nuts is insane.

To me, the characters Wayne portrayed are much different than those Eastwood played. Wayne never played a "Few Dollars More" character, and Eastwood never played a stagecoach rider that I ever saw. Not to mention High Plains Drifter.
 
15 bags of mulch spread, a big bucket of seedlings pulled out of the dry riverbed, SO put a shade cloth over the tomatoes high enough for us to walk under it. Three hours in the upper 90s and I requested a beer. Now hair. That takes an hour:( Need to make some bribes for my CPC when we go over my MRI tomorrow so I will be as informed as can be when we walk into Neuro.

I think Clint was on Rawhide. I read something once where he said he hated that character. Of all the goofy things for a starting actor to complain about, he thought that Rowdy had too many lines...that cowboys were more stoic than that. Interesting that he would care more about the authenticity of the character than he did about personal screen time at that stage of his career. Also interesting to see how he made that vision come true.

As an aside, he's finally retired and turned 96 yesterday.

Could be as much a sign of the times thing versus actor personalities. There aren't many modern day westerns, much less ones like in the past. I do like Tombstone with Kurt Russel, and Open Range with Duvall and Costner. But Eastwood's characters are unique (and maybe a little repetitive.) It's like Eastwood is the constant in all of his movies, with the difference being more with the different supporting actors than even with the plot.

As an aside, Wayne was initially offered the lead role in the Dirty Harry movies but turned it down. Then he played a detective in the movie Brannigan 4 years later.
 
I finally got the last new shrub planted today, which is always fun when it is starting to sprinkle. This afternoon I power washed the back patio again.

And I found out yesterday that my lady friend is back in the hospital. She lasted a few days in assisted living and it sounds like her health took a turn for the worse, and they transferred her to the closest hospital. She's been there about a week. I was able to get her cell phone to her. They are now trying to find a skilled nursing facility for her once the hospital is done with treatment.

Oh yeah... Rawhide. I think it was Ward Bond on Wagon Train. (They do look kind of alike so... 🤣 🤣 )
