Went to Emergency Room Yesterday

After over an hour drive in a van seat that caused more pain, we finally got there.
Doctor was an young female in a bad mood, gave me a "muscle relaxer", may as well had of been a baby aspirin for severe pain.
Out of grocery, so had to stop there, thank goodness was the riding buggy.
IOW other than grocery store it was an agonizing wasted trip. Muscle relaxer my ass!! I was almost crying when we got home and I don't cry.
I guess I just have to deal with it till I can get a drug that will help. Tylenol helps some, but then it can be bad for liver, kidneys.
I need some serious barbiturate's!

Were they able to tell you what is causing all of the pain, since it could not all be from pulling a thigh muscle several months ago and now is hurting you in other places ?

No, Yvonne, they didn't tell me anything. I didn't know about muscle relaxers wasn't for pain, so I just took the pill and left. Didn't touch it!
I can understand doc's don't like giving barbiturate's to everyone, but surely they know sometimes they can be useful when dealing with severe pain.
She said go to my doctor ,well guess she didn't know apts can be far off.
This effects everything from head to toe, makes you sick at the stomach, headacrs from the stress and new muscle pain from favoring the other pain!

I am sorry this happened to you, @Marie Mallory . I think it is not so much that they are not caring people, but that an emergency room is basically set up just to treat emergencies, like a car accident or a heart attack, and they are just a fast stop before sending you to the hospital for an operation or a specialist.

For things that you are not wanting to be admitted to a hospital, it is better to go to one of the urgent care places or your regular doctor, and then they can take the time to actually diagnose what is causing all of the pain that is not from the pulled muscle.

Even after you pulled the muscle in your thigh last fall, you were still getting around and doing things, just slower, and with leg pain. Now, you have pain that is too intense to do anything, and it is happening ALL OVER, not just in the pulled muscle. So, this makes me think that something else is happening and you have inflammation that is causing all of this new pain.

Be sure to tell the doctor that it is not just the pulled muscle, maybe not even say much about that, just that you have terrible pain all over, and tell the doctor when that new pain started , so they will do some blood tests or something and see what is causing the debilitating pain that is moving around.

Even so, they might not do more than give you pain medicine, since doctors seem to only treat things and not try to stop what is causing it in the first place.
I am glad that Secretary Kennedy is going to have doctors be taught more about nutrition, so maybe doctors can learn to try and restore a person’s health, and not just drug them to not feel the pain.

I'm sorry you are still in pain, Marie. Muscle relaxers have never worked for me neither. All the relaxer did for me was make me feel like a zombie. It did not take a way the pain.

It was Sunday so no regular practicians open on weekends.
I read online and YouTube that this is common to have severe pain from pulled muscle according to how bad its pulled determines the recovery time.
Nothing a doctor can do but treat the pain enough to where you can do the physical exercises to help the muscles. When in excruciating pain, exercises are out of the question.
They said to take pain meds to get back to relief.
These squats are one if the worst ones to pill one.
Hope I'm making sense.

Yvonne thank you for the help and I guess I';; break in the doctors office if they say see you in May!:cautious:
They may see me in jail if one of Therse people don't get with the program. I'm literily sick of this shit!!
Not really just kidding before they bust down our doors.:cautious:

I can understand, Marie. When you are in so much pain, everything is worse. I think that you have some pain from the pulled muscle, but it was getting better, and now I think that you also have some kind of inflammatory issue that is causing you to have even more pain, and in other places.
Pain medication can help you to not hurt as much, but it won’t help the inflammation that is causing it. It is like having a leaking roof and putting a bucket under the leak. That keeps the water off of your floor, but until you fix the roof, it is going to keep leaking water into the bucket.

I have been through that routine myself when I hurt too much to even make the trip to the doctor and then all they did was give me a bottle of pain pills, which didn’t even stop much of the pain, so I can understand your frustration.

Now that i am not supposed to take any kind of pain medication, I have instead tried to research what natural things can help, and I mostly do okay between that and the chiropractor when needed. .
Adding our prayers that you get some good help and information from your doctor and start feeling better soon, and sending you a HUG !

I'm taking aspirin daily for stents. I forgot to mention , that I can't use diet and exercise to control diabetes now, lifeting weights is out of the question so I ask the witch for a gucose too.
Been diabetic for 20 or more years and never had a does of glucose or meds, so in hind sight, that was foolish too. Now I'll have to learn how to use glucose. I'm too old to keep up the program.
Jake gave me a Lasartan when he saw my BP was 218 =99.

Can you switch your aspirin or Tylenol to Aleve, Advil ,or ibuprofen for a while. Sometimes one will work better than the other.

I'm just guessing but it sounds like you have a very angry pulled muscle that has become a painful muscle knot. If you can afford it, maybe see a massage therapist that can perform a myofascial massage. That is what gave me some relief and help me on my way to recovery. Maybe your insurance will pay for the massage because massages can be expensive.:(

Thank you for concern, and your corect, I should have sought professional help when I first hurt myself. But I thought it's just going to take time so I went online search engine, youtube.
I read what is best for elderly pain relief, and most said it was Tylenol yet taking too long can cause liver damage.
I also know the dangers of taking barbitchuates, When Jake broke his back he went thru about 16 years of pain meds, withdraqwals, never enough of the stuff for chronic pain. I affects anyone arounfd the drug, I hated them with a xapital H.

Went to the ER with Hubby and they did not have a room for him. He had in infection in his toe that turned to gangrene overnight. They got him a room eventually but let him lay there with different people moving in and out but not the podiatrist on call. Hi fis regular podiatrist is the one that said he HAD to go the ER. Next morning still did not show. and He had a cardiac event during the night from this.
I finally called the Doctor's office and asked for her nurse. I explained what was going on and the nurse said hubby wasn't on her schedule at all! Well I fixed that! But it is months till it is all over.
My point is to call and ask to speak to your doctor's nurse, not the appointment desk. Tell her you have been in pain for a while you don't know why, but now it is excruciating and you need an appointment NOW. The ER did not help you.
I had a friend lose feet of intestines because after being admitted to the hospital from the ER on a Friday, they left her all weekend in pain till getting to her on Monday with emergency surgery.
They have definitely cut back on giving out pain meds easily. (War on Drugs? or people faking)

I always wait for a resolution till that is not sensible. Hope you get the relief you need soon.

I just wanted enough for a couple days, and I would have halved them.
I know too drugs epidemic is a major problem now, still they could have done more or just gave me a shot instead of muscle relaxer.
Just another lesson learned.

Marie,

Hey hey hearing that you're in a lot of pain I'll pray that you get relief soon.

I know you don't like taking pain medicine but sometimes as a temporary fix you have to I personally prefer Advil but everybody has a different choice that works best for them.

I am not an expert but have you ever tried a leg sleeve that give some compression?

I pray that you feel better hang in there.

Marie, I'm going to add my unsolicited advice. I am really sorry you are suffering so much and wasted time and money on an ER visit. Please call a doctor ASAP and get an appointment. Tell them you are in extreme pain and hopefully they can get you in sooner. You might consider seeing an endocrinologist because they specialize in diabetes and the complications from it.

When you see the doctor, don't mention "pulled muscle" or anything. Just tell them where the excruciating pain is, mention your diabetes, and let them run ALL the tests. Blood work, x-ray or scan, etc. There has to be something causing this pain that is not due to a pulled muscle, so let them find it.

I googled "extreme pain around tailbone and diabetes" and got this information...

"Extreme tailbone pain in diabetics is often linked to diabetic neuropathy (nerve damage affecting the buttocks/hips) or diabetic amyotrophy (muscle wasting causing pain). Other causes include infections (e.g., pilonidal cysts) or, rarely, spinal issues. Management typically involves blood sugar control, OTC pain relievers (NSAIDs), and using a coccyx cushion. "
-- Mayo Clinic

I'm certainly no doctor but if it were me, I'd take an anti-inflammatory (Advil, Naproxen, Aleve, or generic ibupropen as Krystal said). Those are not good for kidneys if taken long term, but you need something temporarily to dull your pain.

It seems that we are all lecturing you, but we are trying to help so please don't be offended. I hope you can find help for your pain.

Thank you Beth. I just got off the phone with a doctors office, Earliest apt, is the 10th in afternoon. Yes at my age a check up is due
Changing doctors here is not easy, my other doctor retired or if not he needs to. I think he is 80 or so. I saw him 3 years ago for bloodwork, now I need insulin since I can't workout.
I will have to learn how to give myself shots and not using too much or too little.
I don't think anyone will hive me strong pain meds so I'm trying to limit Tylenol now since thats will still be all I have. Which is ok since I am doing a little bit better, not mush but any improvement will do.
