We will be headed home soon. I'm all packed and just waiting for my wife to get out of bed. As you know, she's much older than I am so it takes her a while to get moving.

Watch how you talk about us cougars, I'm a little over 6 yr older than Jake but he needed a second mother anyway, been 48 years now and he still ain't there yet.

We're home. We've been home for about three hours now, but I had to spend some time with the kitties. Ella was mad at me so she made me beg her to let me pet her, while Bubba was all over me. Then, of course, I had to bring our luggage and stuff inside, and shovel the driveway, sidewalk, and a path to my Tracker and the compost pile in the back, so I am just now sitting down to the computer. Ella is here with me, so all is forgiven, apparently. I think I'll be going to bed early tonight because driving is tiresome.

I am going to bed. We'll be getting up and out of here early for a trip to the UP of Michigan. The plan is to drive long days to avoid unnecessary hotel stays and to arrive ASAP, but that will depend on factors like weather and whether we feel like we can drive longer than usual. I hope you appreciated the way I used "weather" and "whether."

The longest I've driven at one shot was northern Virginia to Atlanta. 11 hours. It's sort of a bastard distance...makes for a long day, but too short to reasonably split into 2 days.

We drove from Canbera , Australian Capitol territory ….1300 km ….leaving at 2 am …….for South Australia ….only stopping for fuel/ food or drink to keep, awake

it was to make it home for an unplanned / unexpected day surgery for hubs cataracts .

Hubs had his name down to have his cataracts done on the public system , and he’d had his name down at the time ,for about 7 months ….of an estimated 12 month wait ….

Hubs was a little concerned his name may come up while we were in Canbera , so I phoned the local hospital ~ and the city office of the specialist that travels to our area ~ for 2 days ~ once every three months ….to ask how far down the list his name was …..

I was assured his name was 6 months from the top of the list ,

Then we get a call 2 days before we were due to leave Canbera ….14 …days~~ after I’d phoned about how far down the list his name was …

He was told if you can’t attend the date given his name would go down to the bottom of the list again ….

So by driving 1300 km home ….without rest …..we arrived that night … he had to be at be at the hospital at 7 am the next morning

Ken......... Where about are you going in the UP ???
You are not that far from me in Massey... I am about 2 1/2 to 3 hours from Sault Ste. Marie....
Just mentioning it......

I grew up in Wallace, about 12 miles from the Wisconsin border, but we'll be staying at my oldest brother's house in Menominee, a twin city of Marinette, Wisconsin. I've been across the border there many times, as, when I was in high school, the really cool fireworks were still available in Canada, but not in Michigan.
