I suppose he referred to Germany as the enemy during WWII because they absolutely WERE "the enemy." I don't know the context of that clip since I didn't hear the entire conversation, so I tend to view it superficially. Depending on the "news" outlet, his words are usually twisted or taken out of context to fit some preconceived notion. Is he incorrect in stating that Germany pays less than they should to NATO?

I didn't realize that. Thanks for dropping that in. As somebody has already said, it's getting harder to buy anything the chinese do not make
or is not made in China. I guess that's what profit demands.

Surely that is meant as a joke Thomas. If not it is in very bad taste.. and one the Germans will not take kindly to.

Superficially looked at: no, he isn't, but it's a half-truth again. As I said, it needs to be seen in the wider context of the London NATO summit and his strategy towards Russia and his attitude towards Germany as a whole over a certain period of time.

Trump likes using the phrase "People say..." for obvious reasons. So let me modify it to
    "People know..."
    a) that what he refers to is the 2014 agreement made an the Wales Summit which set a rather abstract target of spending 2% of the annual economic output on defense by the year 2024, i.e, it hasn't come into effect yet.
    b) that a "congenital defect" of this agreement was that it did not specify what those 2% should include: spending on arms and troop strength only or also missions abroad which Germany has increasingly agreed to (Afghanistan, Mali, Syria, Iraq and elsewhere) and financed? Why wasn't that sufficiently clear from the outset?
    c) that only 7 out of 29 NATO members have hit the target of 2%. So why single out Germany?
    d) that Germany has got the fourth largest army and spends $54 bn, which is the third largest military budget within NATO.

So his remark is premature and he knows that. Yet, admittedly, the pressure he exerted an the last summit has had an effect on member states to take more efforts. He, and Macron BTW, need to understand that Germany still has a special status within NATO due to its history and rightly so. You can't have it both ways. Plus, the German army is a parliamentary army with all the implications that this has.

That was no joke @Craig Wilson . It is part of his rhetoric.

I'm not saying that anything would change under another US administration but the tonality certainly would.

Given the misleading text that accompanies the video, I will guess that either it was taken out of context or the context was taken out of it, as we've seen continuously for the past three years.

Yes this sickened me too. Victoria State needed to make an exception in this and similar cases. It has ripped apart Australia's moderate Covid case and death rate and now this terrible situation. Something similar happened to another socialist run state. QLD with people from northern NSW not being able to access urgent medical care in that state and having to travel thousands of kilometres further to Sydney to get required care because its premier kept the border shut. Medical Incidences such as these need to have an as a matter of urgency tag put to them to have the borders opened.

US President Donald Trump has awarded Prime Minister Scott Morrison the Legion of Merit "for his leadership in addressing global challenges and promoting collective security".

The Australian people thank you Donald.. well a majority do I suspect. We think Sco Mo has done and continues play his role as well as any world leader.

Communist China mouthpiece the Global Times has launched a scathing attack on Five Eyes members,US, Aust, Uk, NZ and Canada accusing them of creating a "racist community". This is the wake of Canada's decision to declare China's treatment of Uyghurs as genocide and the other FE members backing their move.

"They (Five Eyes) have formed a US-centred, racist, and mafia-styled community, willfully and arrogantly provoking China and trying to consolidate their hegemony as all gangsters do. It is diplomatic hooliganism" .

Wow that is bit of the pot calling the kettle black with CCP's heavy-handed diplomacy in the past 12 months, dubbed 'wolf warrior diplomacy' after the hit action movies of the same name where Rambo-like protagonists defend the interests of China across the globe.

Craig, Martin is Canadian, not that you would know it, due to his overwhelming concern about American politics. Instead of supporting or criticizing his own nation he choses to insert himself into anothers business!

That's amusing, particularly considering that it is posted in a thread entitled, "The West Has to Stop China." Thanks for that.
