The Alvin Straight Story

"The worst part of being old, is remembering when you were young." Alvin Straight age 73

This story is one we can all identify with. If one has followed all the different issues discussed here on SOC, this story covers many of those issues. Thanks to @Bobby Cole for bringing this true story up. A journey of a 73 year old man with multiple health issues, including poor vision, that decided to make amends with his estranged brother, living 240 miles away. Since his drivers license had been revoked, did he take a train, a plane, a bus, or have someone drive him? No he did not. Watch the film clips for this unusual true story that delves into old age and the many issues that may seem overwhelming at times. What are some of the issues of old age that you can identify with? @Marie Mallory please don't let @Jake Smith see this thread. Being a tractor man, I fear what he might attempt. :ROFLMAO:

Key points of consideration

1. Estrangement with a relative

2. Need for mechanical medical assistance

3. Stubbornness

4. Doing things the hard way

5. Refusing help

6. Excessive sarcasm

7. Disregard for professional medical advice

8, Etc.

Here a short clip that should spark your interest. :ROFLMAO:

Here is the trailer to the movie

Thanks Faye, we're always looking for good movies.

When I lived in Texas, there was a guy who had his DL suspended for DUIs. Although he lived in San Benito, a small city, he bought a small farm tractor, which did not require a driver's license and used that. Because San Benito was surrounded by agricultural area, tractors were allowed on the streets so, while they might have been able to get him for other alcohol-related charges, they couldn't get him for driving on a suspended license. The cop who told me about him was in my paramedic class, and he thought it was rather clever.

True, we see tractors here going down the highway on the way to another property, I guess.
