Do any of you remember when the president of France felt the need to address the fact that people around the world, but mostly the United States, were referring to the French as "surrender monkeys"? The humor was not so much in the term as that it had risen to the level of requiring official notice. When you have to beg people to quit calling you a surrender monkey, you've already lost the argument. I think that was around the same time as a push in the U.S. to rename "French Fries."
