PROBLEMS WITH YOUR PURCHASE?

When our house was being refurbished after the fire we were told to go pick out our kitchen major appliances, and to have them delivered. Contractor said they would be installing kitchen cabinets and they would need the appliances soon. My wife and I did some research, and based on recommendations and internet ratings we decided to go with LG for all the appliances in the kitchen. We reviewed the refrigerator, stove, dishwasher and over the stove microwave for reliability, features, size, and looks. The manufacturers warranty was one year, so we purchase an additional warranty of 5 years for repair and parts.

About 3 weeks before Christmas our refrigerator came up with an error code IF E, which had something to do with the fan for the ice maker. Not knowing if that affected the refrigerator or just the ice, in a rush to save what foods was in the refrigerator and freezer they were removed an squeezed into our backup refrigerator. We found out later this error code only affected the ice and water dispenser, not the refrigerator.

After contacting the store we purchase the appliances, then the warranty service, then they connected us to a repair service we got a date for a repair man to come and fix the refrigerator.

The repair man couldn't fix the refrigerator on the 1st visit he needed a part. In total it took about 2 weeks for the refrigerator to be repaired.

On Christmas day our dishwasher came up with a error code IE which was not enough water fill. Bottom line the warranty company said between the cost of the part and the labor cost it was not worth repairing. They are sending us a check for about 80% of the purchase price. We feld we should have gotten a full refund, but after disagreeing with the store and warranty service we got nowhere.

Both these appliances broke down in 2 years and one month.

We purchase a Bosch Dishwasher from Costco and are waiting for the installation this coming Monday.

I remember one of my refrigerators running for 20 years, and we replaced it not because it was not working but we wanted a bigger one.

Any problems with a purchase or warranty, let's hear about it. It might be helpful to others.

My washing machine after 25 years decided not to drain and spin anymore. Boy, did I get a workout that day. So I called the home warranty to come out to fix it, which long story short, I received a Lowe's gift for $100 because they couldn't install the hot water hose because they didn't want to damage the pipe. I said, 'Can't you just use WD 40?' :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

How aggravating, @Tony Page . I have to say that I'm surprised; I have LG washer and dryer that are at least 10+ years old and have never missed a beat. I also have an LG refrigerator that we bought during cancer/covid and it has also been trouble-free (so far).

I did have problems with a Frigidaire garage model refrigerator that kept having ice buildup in the bottom of the freezer before it was a year old. They sent a service guy and the issue was a simple fix. I believe the defrost drain hose was kinked or something.

And don't get me started on the last car I bought. Ugh, what an expensive mistake that was.

We stay away from Frigidaire.
I remember you having car issues, its terrible that the quality has diminished today

Our old dryer is a Whirlpool, and out washer is a LG about 10 or so.
LG is rusting around where you put in detergent really bad but it still washes clothes good.

We haven't had major appliance issues for a while. We had a washer go out during Covid and when we went into a dealer we had used for years, they refused to sell us the washer unless we bought the dryer as well. We didn't need the dryer, so we went elsewhere and got a washer--Whirlpool. Most of our appliances are now Whirlpool as one son works for a company that sells that brand and he gets them for cost+10% so it is a significant savings. Our garage fridge is our old kitchen fridge when we bought a new larger one for the kitchen. I think that one is a Samsung because it fit our needs better than anything else. @Tony Page my daughter in Washington state had an issue with an ice maker in her new fridge, and Lowes replaced it at no charge since they couldn't fix it or perhaps just gave them the money back. They have a counter top ice maker now, so maybe that was it.

We have a Bosch refrigerator and the same thing happen to ours after the refrigerator was around 3 years old. The refrigerator started to pop really loud during the defrost mode, which became annoying. I seen a little water on the floor. I ran my hand under the bottom freezer drawer and felt a sheet of ice. Ice had built up in the bottom of the freezer. We moved everything out of the refrigerator and the bottom freezers. My husband took the 2 bottom freezer drawers out completely and had a look-see. The drain was frozen. We let it thaw out overnight. It has been over year and we haven't had that problem again with it so far. 🤞 After more investigating on line, apparently this is a bad design with alot of the refrigerators. 😠

Bobby just ordered a battery from Amazon that was supposed to fit our truck, and they sent one that is the wrong size and is too large for where it is supposed to fit. When he went to see about returning it, he was told he has to return it at his own expense, and the cost was more than he paid for the battery !
We have never had Amazon say that before, and I think that we should at least try taking it back to their return center at Whole Foods and see if we can return it that way.
Otherwise, it looks like @Bobby Cole will be keeping it as a spare battery for something. He can explain the whole thing better than I can , but we will definitely be checking more closely when ordering from amazon in the future.

That has happened to me before too. If you ordered it from a third party on Amazon, sometimes they make you pay for returns.

I don't know if you worry about such things @Yvonne Smith but if you keep that battery charged, and buy (or have) a small inverter, you can keep all your little devices charged during power outages. Cell phones, tablets, and laptops are not a problem, and I even keep my router and modem (I have DSL which has never quit) going for a days or so. That way I don't have to use the generator for small outages, especially in summer.

We just went thru a hard time with the driveshaft dealer, they sent the wrong part then tried to blame Jake, when Kake even sent them a picture of it. They held up $540.00 for a almost a month.
We got email saying after arguments on phone and emails, they were refunding the money. We even sent the part back at $109.00 and won't get that back.
They said the bank would hold it a couple days.

Since I’m not going to return the derned thing, getting a $30 or so small inverter is a great idea.

I really haven’t had any problems with Amazon until now but it seems that reading the fine print before purchasing anything from them is the new addition to caveat emptor.
I called Amazon yesterday to see if they could do anything and whilst the guy said he couldn’t help much on 3rd party returns, he said he’d credit my account with a $50 something or other but 50 beans on a $200 + return price isn’t much help but….it’s something I guess.

I just had a good experience with an Amazon return. I had bought a craft book for one of the Littles for Christmas. It wasn't at all like the description.

I put in for a refund, it was credited the next day and I was told to keep the book.
Yeah, I had something like that happen.
I ordered a bottle of nitric oxide booster and got a small bottle of hair elixir instead. I called Amazon and the nice lady re-ordered the $15 booster and told me to keep the $44 hair elixir.

P.S. The hair stuff wasn’t worth a single star as it turned out. Still losing hair.

I had the same experience. I had a fridge for about the same amount of time, and a contractor friend got me a better one when his client was remodeling her kitchen. That one was still running after 13 years when I moved to my current home. I bought a new fridge when I moved in. It died after 7 years.

Longer story regarding the newer fridge breaking: I took a look at it and discovered that the condenser fan was shot. The appliance store was about an hour's drive away and was closing in an hour and 10 minutes, so I did not have time to pull the existing fan to take with me. I got the Model# off of it, looked it up on the web to make sure it was still current, called the appliance store and they had it in stock. When I got there the counter guy also verified it to be the correct part for my Model# fridge. I drove home, and when I went to install it, both the mounting holes and the electrical connector were different than the original, even though the Part# that was stamped on the housings matched exactly...there were no suffices or Dash# or anything to indicate a version change. Knowing that each round trip to potentially get another part was 2 hours I gave up and bought another fridge, and a perfectly serviceable fridge was sent to Appliance Heaven.

Thanks for the reminder. Wanna rub lemon juice in my cuts? ;)
