On Deleting and Heavily Editing Posts

Unlike the last version of the Seniors Only Club, we are - so far - allowing members to delete or edit their posts, but please don't get too aggressive with this. If you post something you later wish you hadn't, it's fine to delete it if you realize that early, before others have replied. However, when you introduce a topic or an opinion that faces criticism or disagreement, that's life as it is supposed to be. Forcing a redo by deletion is unnatural and annoying to others who may have invested in it. Likewise, significantly editing an opening post or reply after others have responded makes the whole thread confusing, because people see replies to things that are no longer there.

On the other hand, if, like me, you hate to see that your post has a typo, a misspelling, or that it was worded in way that others might find confusing, feel free to edit it, as long as you haven't been called out on it. I hope we never get to the point where anyone is called out for misspellings or typos, but sometimes there is humor in the resulting error, so someone might jokingly point it out, in good fun not maliciousness.

All I'm asking is that you use discretion in deleting or heavily editing your contributions to the forum. We're just people talking about stuff, and that doesn't require perfection, and if no one ever disagreed with anyone else, we'd have nothing to talk about.

I am guilty of editing post heavily since I post and everything looks a blur and during times of seeing clear for a few seconds, sometimes minutes after changing glasses, I see wording or mistakes that are unacceptable to me. Sometimes I realize a post is best deleted and not because of a response, but because I failed to convey my thoughts in the way I intended.

With that said, my petty complaints shouldn't be a catalyst for change, but this forum with a black background and white lettering blurs much faster than a white background with black letters. I find it gives me eye strain when I review what I write because I have to close my bad eye in order to even make out the letters. I could wear an eye patch, but I am not ready to become a pirate winch quite yet.

To experiment, I can now look at another site with white back and black letters and my eyes last a lot longer and also if I look away and back. I can clear it up. With black back and white letters, looking away doesn't help and I have to type without looking at the screen.

I can change color configurations, but I hate getting involved in a long, drawn-out task of trying one thing, not liking, trying another, then another, and then realizing that I don't know how to get it back to the way it was. When it comes to color configurations, some members will hate what others like, and so on. For example, this is the default configuration, usually chosen because it's something that looks nice and is comfortable for most people. I like that it uses a white background with black lettering during the day and switches to a black background at night.

As for heavily editing or deleting posts, to me it's the equivalent of spending time listening to someone talk about something, thinking about how you might want to respond to continue the conversation, only to have them gaslight you by saying, "I didn't say that."

Deleting a post minutes after you posted it, and before anyone has replied to, should be okay, and it's usually okay to edit a post to clarify it.
