New Apple iPhone 17 Pro

First, any of you have this iPhone? Is it, or was it, a big "learning experience" for you?

As a 25th Wedding Anniversary gift to ourselves, we decided to get rid of our old Apple iPhone 12 that we bought in 2021 and buy two iPhone 17 Pro's. We read that the camera and video camera of the 17 Pro is very supreme compared to earlier Apple iPhones. We got both of the 17 Pro at an Apple Store last Sunday and boy was the place crowded. There were a few folks, close to our age (?), in the store, but they were involved in two Training Classes on how to use an Apple product.

A very nice salesperson helped us and informed my wife that the battery in her phone was about to burst. We don't know what the small lump on the lower side of her screen was, but he sure let us know.

Thing is, just like when buying a new computer tower and finding out that you have to buy new software for it, the same can/does go for a new iPhone. We had to buy new charging cables/charger, new Otter Box Defender Case and Holster/Clip. And, decided to get a years worth of Apple Care for each phone. The whole buy was well worth the money and, besides that, they (iPhone 17 Pro) are our 25th Wedding Anniversary gifts.

But, just to let all of you know, some of the things that are on the 17, are the same as the 12, but, many, many things are pretty "high-tech" and we are still learning.
 
I have the iPhone 16 Plus , which is not a lot different than the 17, and my daughter has one of the new 17 iPhones, I am not sure which one she bought, but probably whichever one had the best camera on it.
I am really happy with mine, and it should last me a long time yet. I am sure you will both love your new 17 iPhones, too ! What colors did you get ?

I was just about to buy the 17 a couple of months ago but saw a lot of complaints about incompatibility with Apple CarPlay so I'm waiting on that to be resolved. I'm still using my iPhone 11 and it works fine for what I need, but I wonder how much longer it will be eligible for iOS updates.

I got blue and my wife got orange. So far, we are happy with the new ones and I finally figured out how to "update" our apps. One thing for sure, there are some things in the phone, we won't even use. One of those things is the "TV" thing. That costs (subscription) to use. However, of course, we will use our Cowboy Channel App to watch any rodeo going on when were not at home.

Beth, it was just like when updates for Windows 10 stopped and we had to get a new desktop computer tower with Windows 11 in it. Our Windows 10 computer wasn't compatible with getting Windows 11. Don't know why it wasn't compatible, but that's what the Update area to us.

We don't take as many photos as we use to, but still do take photos. The "zoom" part of the camera on a 17 Plus is pretty awesome. I'm not like many people who keep tons of photos on their iPhone, like my wife's older sister does. I upload most pictures to a photo area on our desktop, edit them and then download to USB's. I found out this last December, when my wife's older sister was here for a few days, and wanted me to take her photos off of her iPhone and put on a USB, she had darn near 3,000 photos on her iPhone.
 
I have the 15 Pro because I like the slightly larger screen than the regular iPhones, but I haven’t seen much of a difference moving from one Pro version to another.

We use our iPhones for the same things, Ken. At the store, my wife told the salesperson, "The only extra thing I want on my 17 is the Apple Care Package for a year", so they didn't approve a Free Trial (first)/Subscription (later) on hers for other stuff we wouldn't use. However, on mine they did, but didn't ask me if I wanted the other things. I found out yesterday that they done the Free Trial-then later Subscription on mine and I had to cancel all of them. That is, except for the Apple Care Package.

My wife has a few games on her iphone, and I do as well.
 
It's sort of funny, but we see the much younger generation, like our great nieces and nephews, texting away with both thumbs, rather fast, while we do the "hunt and peck" thing with our finger on our iphones. The use abbreviations, whereas we type out/text the entire word.

My chiropractor, who is a youngish fellow, told me the younger generation will have arthritis in their hands and necks at an earlier age with all the texting and looking down at their phones. I don't text very fast and I usually don't abbreviate too much.
 
I think the only apps that I have put on my iPhone are Waze and PlantNET, the latter of which I do use during the spring and summer because I like knowing what types of plants we have around, particularly when something pops up in my garden spaces that I didn't plant, but which doesn't look like a weed.
 
I like the plant net app, too ! I had one that I was paying for, and then the free one came along from apple, so I stopped the Picture This app and now use the PlantNet one. It is great for finding out all the little unknown plants that come up in the spring, or ones that I have forgotten from last year.
 
I have rejected repeated offers from my cell carrier, to update my old 6 by buying a new sim card, but they say now that I will be sent a new sim card. no charge, and If I don't go to the store and have them install it, my cell will be useless. Years ago they drained my battery and I refused to replace it. Finally the agency that controls these cell companies, made them quit draining batteries with their updates. I refused to buy a new battery, even with their special offer of $35. I just keep it plugged in.

I am wise to their game to get me in the store and try to sell me a new phone and jack my rates up. I have never been a cell phone addict. I can sit for an hour in a doctors office and never pull out my cell. I had rather look and listen for opportunities to entertain. I didn't spend 12 years as the class clown just to waste it, on a cell phone, in my old age. :ROFLMAO:
