With apologies to Mrs Page who I know has an aversion to monkeys preferring elephants Having accumulated several hundred monkey photos so far on our vacation, I thought I would post a few, feel free to add your own, maybe you have one as a pet, a furbaby (don't like the term but it fits here ) For you Chrissy This one was a bit of a poser A bit of preening A family This species hairstyle reminds me of a certain Republican candidate, no slur intended it just did
I watched a nature programme recently that featured some deviously criminal macaques that lived at a temple. They had learned that stealing from tourists was a route to free food. Even better, they knew the value of everything. For example, a mobile phone was obviously worth more than a pair of sunglasses, so they would hold out for a bigger food offering before handing back the ransomed goods. It made us laugh a great deal. When I remember, I'll see if I can find any footage.
I agree, they are smart! Remember Koko the sign-language gorilla from years ago? I read that she, when shown a face mask for the first time, signed "eye hat".
I thought this was intelligentā¦for the monkey to be able to comprehend what was going on and it's purposeā¦for entertainment. What other animal in the zoo would do this?
David Attenborough explains how capuchin monkeys worked out how to produce mosquito repellent before humans got round to the idea.
